Not sure if this has been brought up yet, but there is a Famicom game called Battle Storm that makes no attempt to hide the influence of the various action stars from the 80s.

Sorry, but those two magician pics don't look similar AT ALL apart from both sporting a top hat. The eyes, the chin, the ears, the shadows indicating cheek bones, they're all completely different, plus, Mandrake has a mustache, which the other guy doesn't have.
And I really hope that the fantastic article isn't going to be cluttered by assumptions of characters in games vaguely resembling one or the other celebrity. Just because some guy has a grey beard doesn't make him Sean Connery and short hair doesn't mean a gal has been inspired by Natalia Imbruglia.
The way the article is handled right now, containing only crystal clear copies of specific posters/drawings/photos/etc. is definitely the way to go.

Hello everyone, this is my first post. I've been visiting this site for quite a while and I've enjoyed reading all the great articles (I especially enjoy the weekly kusoge articles), and upon reading 'Tracing the Influence' I decided to finally create an account and post something here. Here's the Japanese box art of Streets of Rage 2 (Bare Knuckle 2): Axel (the guy in the center) has a familiair looking face:

Haha, that's hilarious! Is that some kind of energy drink he's advertising? Sorry, but those two magician pics don't look similar AT ALL apart from both sporting a top hat. The eyes, the chin, the ears, the shadows indicating cheek bones, they're all completely different, plus, Mandrake has a mustache, which the other guy doesn't have. I'm willing to cut the Murder on the Atlantic images some more slack than the rest, cause they're of such sketchy quality to begin with, especially those based on comic characters that may have slightly different features with each publication. I guess technically I should have put a question mark after some of them, like I did with Metal Fangs...

Man and to think there was never a streets of rage tie-in starring ol' JCVD...

New member here. I love this article and I thought I saw some more stuff in the Metal Fangs section The white guy with glasses in the top row I think is supposed to be Elvis Costello. Also I don't think this guy is Adam Horovitz . I think that's James Atkin, the lead singer of EMF(They did that song "Unbelievable").

So, this is something of a shot in the dark but I keep wondering about that short-haired woman from Metal Fangs. My best guess so far is Annie Lennox but I haven't been able to find a good match for a photo.

This guy from Astral Bout for the Super Famicom is Mike Tyson.

I posted these in the scan thread, but might as well put them here, too. Three ads with a 'through-the girls-legs' perspective. Is it taken from something?

Run Saber: Judging by the pose, I'd guess some real life sports photo we're never gonna find. Could be mistaken, though, could also originally have been someone having punched a guy in the face... Power Blade 2: Best bet would be Arnie. Demon Sword: For some reason, I think this isn't Arnie. Castlequest: Inspired by a scene from the Errol Flynn Robin Hood movie, though I doubt it's recreating any particular shot. Could be an indirect influence with a missing link in between, too. I' guess Leia for the chained-up beauty. But there are many chained-up beauties in fantasy art...
