This might look like it is a bit much, but it is very easy to learn and remember.
About controling Fire Pro:
Which game are you playing? There are like a dozen and a half. I will assume that you have Super Fire Prowrestling X Premium. So these controls will be for that game. If you have a different Fire Pro I will give control instructions for that if they are different. However Super Fire Prowrestling X Premium is this series best and probably this genres best.
Basic information:
EVERTHING is timing based. Wins are acomplished by pinning your opponent for a three count (default count); injuring your opponent enough and then applying a hold, which sometimes causes the ref to call the match (only resulting in a win if the ref does call the match) or getting the other guy counted out (him applying a illegal move for five seconds or being out of the ring for twenty seconds [default times]).
Grappling and attacks (timing and controls):
MOST IMPORTANT: DURING GRAPPLES MOVES ARE EXECUTED BY ENTERING YOUR ATTACK EXACTLY WHEN THE WRESTLERS PALMS HIT EACH OTHERS SHOULDERS. WHOEVER IS CLOSEST WITHOUT BEING EARLY WILL EXECUTE THEIR ATTACK. This is odd at first, but after just a little practice you will really enjoy this series and probably prefer these kinds of controls for a wrestling game.
While standing: Y is lowest power attack, B is second best attack, A is most powerful attack, X will run into ropes or turnbuckle, L is taunt.
During grapple Y, B and A are of the same power as while standing, X will whip opponent into ropes or turnbuckle. Y, B or A by themselves will do a attack, as will those buttons with any of the four directions of the d-pad. However two directions will allways do the same attack (up and down for Y, toward and back for B and A), giving you four attacks for each or the three buttons. Y attacks can be executed any time. B attacks must be exectuted after your opponent has taken some damage. A attacks must be executed after your opponent has taken great damage. Y and B at the same time during a grapple will do a finisher if your opponent has taken major damage.
If you approach your opponent from behind you will do a back grapple. X will do one of two moves depending on your choice of wrestler. B will do a striking move. A or A and a direction will do a stronger move. Y and B at the same time will do a finisher.
If you run into the ropes it is possible to attack with Y or B. These moves can be countered with Y or B. If you whip your opponent into the turnbuckle and then run at them it is possible to attack while they are still against it with Y or B. These can also be countered with Y or B.
If you are whipped into the ropes hitting Y when the wrestler hits the ropes will stop him. B when he hits the ropes will make him grab them and then keep running, allowing a follow up running attack if you choose. A when he hits the ropes will do a springboard attack. Not all wrestlers have a springboard attack however.
If you whip your opponent into the ropes Y or B will hit your opponent and A will do your wrestlers strongest standing attack. R will do one of two attacks or nothing depending on you choice of wrestler.
If you whip your opponent into the turnbuckle you can run in after them and hit a running attack. Your opponent may hit any of the attack buttons repeatedly to attempt to counter your running attack. Grappling in front of turnbuckles then hitting toward and A will shove your opponent into the turnbuckle and hit them with a attack, up and A will place your opponent on the turnbuckle facing the ring so that a top rope move can be executed, down and A will place your opponent on the turnbuckle facing the outside. Hitting A while gabbing your opponent on the turnbuckle will do a top rope move.
Climb turnbuckles by hitting the direction toward the turnbuckle and A. From there hit Y or B to do a flying attack to a fallen opponent, and A or X to a standing opponent. To get down hit down twice. To push your opponent off a turnbuckle hit the direction toward the turnbuckle and A.
If you opponent is outside the ring attacks are possible by standing next to the ropes then hitting A, or running into the ropes followed by hitting A while approaching the ropes at whichever side they are, or climb the turnbuckle and do a attack for standing opponents. Exit the ring by hitting toward the ropes with A, and re-enter the ring by hitting toward the ropes with B.
While you opponent is laying on the mat, pin with B or do a hold or attack with A. Different moves will be done if your wrestler is standing near your opponents lower half or upper half. Y while standing near their feet will move you opponent onto their front. Y if your wrestler is standing near your opponents face will bring them to their feet. If they are on their front Y near their face will move them onto their back and Y near their feet will bring them to their feet. B or A while your opponent is lying on their front will do different moves.
Y and B at the same time will do a special move. All wrestlers except Saxon Hiruki (Ricky Fuyuki) and Ghouly Mado (Jado) have special moves. There are specific circumstaces for each special move, which I will post if you like.
If you have any other questions ask.

*scratches* Stupid question, but is Fire Pro Wrestling something like the successor of Pro Wresting for the NES. I know Fire has been around for awhile, but I just now made the connection.

Fire Pro and Pro Wrestling are not connected, though they are both great games (in different ways).

This tutorial is a HEAP BIG help, and I give you another exalt for it. ;D Yes, the installment I'm on is Super Fire Prowrestling X Premium, with customization options that really rock. Now that I know how to play the damn thing, it just got a whole lot awesomer. You should write an official FAQ for this, zzz!

I'd like to BUMP this topic, as I have been on a huge pro wrestling bend. I'm getting slightly better at Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium, but I'm still getting my ass stomped. When I try to execute a grapple, the sucker counters with a chop or a kneebutt or something of the sort... is this because I'm trying to do a B or A grapple attack without bruising the opponent for a bit first?

Yeah, this usually means you're going for powerful moves too soon, or possibly your wrestler is tired... make sure you remember to let him rest by using the breathe button!

Also, I don't know how to prop up an enemy from a laying position to a sitting position... a few enemies did this to me and got some kicks to the back of my head. But by following the above fundamentals, I FINALLY won a freaking match... with Hulk Hogan no less! WHATCHA GONNA DO, BROTHER?!? ;D (In other news, I'm getting my ass whupped in Tecmo World Wrestling, but... maybe for another thread. Unless this could be the "Help with all wrestling games" thread?")

Err... now I'm confused. I could've sworn the breathe button was in SFPPX... but there's no mention of it in the FAQ I just looked at. I know the breathe button is in the DC and PS2 games, and I was certain it was in the PSX and SNES games as well. Sorry.

S'okay, but I got a new problem: The ONLY match I won was through was what looked like a cross between a backbreaker and a submission hold, and the opponent gave up. However, I failed the next one because of a simple maneuver: The pin. No matter how much pain I seem to inflict, whenever I get down to pin an opponent, the fucker throws me off almost immediately with little effort. Does it affect things if I tap the B button rapidly as he's down on the floor? Can anyone help me with pinning?

Now this answer I'm certain of, because I just played SFPPX to test it out. You just have to wear the other guy down sufficiently. When you press B to initiate the pin, press nothing else! If you press B while you are pinning you'll let your opponent go. Just be patient, hit him with light moves for while, move on to medium moves, etc etc until he is getting up groggy all the time, or taking forever to get up from a fall. Then you know he's weak.

I forgot that you can also win by knockout.
Like I said before, you need to do damage before you can do B attacks. And even more damage before A attacks. That only applies to attacks during grapples, however. B and A attacks that do not require grappling can be done whenever.
Hit B to pin. Then do nothing else. This will not necessarily cause a three count, but it might. If your oppponent gets up, try pinning again. Though you would be more likely to get a three count if you did more attacks before attempting to pin again.
If you have questions about any other emulatable wrestling games I will try to answer your questions.
If you are on a wrestling game kick, here are emulatable wrestling games other than Fire Pro which are worth trying:
WWF RAW (SNES) Gekitou Burning Pro Wrestling (SFC) Saturday Night Slam Masters (SNES) Ring of Destruction: Saturday Night Slam Masters II (CPS arcade hardware system) Shin Nippon Pro Wrestling series (SFC) Zen Nippon Pro Wrestling series (SFC) Big Bang Pro Wrestling (NGPC) Jikkyou Power Pro Wrestling '96 (SFC)
Any others?

BITCHING!!! Thanks to kyouki and zzz, I'm primed to kick much more ass! And z-cubed, thanks for that special move list and list of wrestling games! I'd also like to know if there are any that are worthy for other systems? ... on second thought... let me make that into a new topic, if I may... ;D Also, I've another question: In the Wrestler Edit Moves menu, what does it mean when words are flashing orange or blue? And what about the moves in red text? I must also say that I don't know how to perform half of the moves in the moves menu, because even in the semi-translated rom I have, how to perform the moves is in Japanese. Bollocks. Oh, and one more matter: I've heard that there are unlockable wrestlers and moves... how do I unlock secret things?
