Well, it looks like it's already decided, but I'm voting:
LAGOON
I've always wanted to play it. Also: Ys clones are cool.
I played Blackthorne back in the day and it was alright, but it got repetitive fast. Never finished it. Since it looks like the chosen, if you're emulating, try to emulate the 32X version. There's extra levels and a room featuring the trio of Lost Vikings (same developer, you see). Can someone take some screens for our Lost Viking article.

Unfortunately, you're also going to putting up with the game running faster than normal (I guess it was done for PAL originally or something?) and some honestly pretty terrible-looking CG characters instead of the original sprites.

You could probably force it to run in 50Hz, slowing it back down.

I don't mind the cheesy pre-rendered sprites. Then again, I've only played the 32X version, so I don't know how good the original sprite work and animation really was aside from a few pictures.

KEGA Fusion has a PAL mode although I don't know if that extends to its 32x support (I believe it does).
While I haven't technically played it in the last year, I certainly have experienced Blackthorne to a far greater extent than either other game so I'll vote Lagoon. If Blackthrone wasn't ahead by a landslide though...

LAGOONI've always wanted to play it. Also: Ys clones are cool. You should definitely try it. The music is great. The gameplay is not for everyone. I feel sick to my stomach even thinking about the combat. And the dungeons are HUGE and tedious mazes. Oh, and there are escort missions which are so painfully slow that I've never quite seen anything like it. Last but not least, the boss battles are among the hardest in the genre. In my opinion at least. They're so frustratingly unfair unless you know exactly where to stand and how to move. But by all means, play it!

Holy wow. This is the most explosive landslide vote we've ever had to my knowledge! I think I'm going to close the poll tonight at 10:30 and declare Blackthorne the winner, unless we get a massive influx of votes for either of the other two games from now until then. Everyone cool with that?

But... I want to play Lagoon....
That being said I will probably not be participating as I have a rediculous amount of work, so I guess it's not a vote.

I think you may remove my vote- not going to get a chance to participate this month as I have to do a course in my own time for work

It's a shame that Blakthorne is such a landslide vote, simply because Lagoon and Milon's Secret Castle would both generate more interesting discussion.

It's kind of a catch-22 though; I agree that they'd make for good conversation, or at least Milon would, but it would preclude that we actually play either of those games . I'd be up for Milon under other circumstances, but I'm going out of town on business for two weeks and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be up to the task.

Alrighty, not too many other votes have been put in besides two for Lagoon, but I'm going to close the polls early and declare Blackthorne the winner. Everyone can get started on playing it whenever they want!

I have a feeling Blackthorne is gonna be plenty good to talk about, so I'll vote for it. Like the rebel I am.
Arino's already played Milon on Game Center, as well. That episode kinda epitomizes the game, all by itself.

I have some tips on Blackthorne- 1- Hover bombs are used by pressing and holding the run button and pressing up while in platform mode. It took me a while to figure this out because I played without a manual (it was used). 2- Hover bombs can be used for taking out enemies, but you should not waste them. You need them to blow open doors. 3- The shadows are your friends. Learn to hide in them and fire when your enemies are vulnerable. The gunfights can get pretty intense, so knowing when to shoot and in what direction is critical. 4- Don't kill innocent bystanders. You can, but they give you cool stuff and solutions to puzzles if you talk to them. Also, I have a password. for in case anyone wants to skip level 1, also known as the tutorial* FBWC *Password works on the 32X version of the game. I don't know if it does anything on other versions.

Time for an obvious little bit that I wasn't sure about at first: The Levitator (that gold triangle thingy) is a weird little device that took me some figuring out how to use. First, you highlight it in your inventory, press the item use button to lay it down, then press up on the d-pad while standing on it. In the area where you first get one, you need to backtrack to the top of the elevator and go a screen or two to the right. You will know when to use it when you see the high-up door.
