Thank you! I got the backpack doing the free fall approach, then went the safe route to the regular exit. <_< Still gotta get that top right exit.
Edit: woo, got it
Are you using a map to figure out which levels have alternate exits, or can you just tell that field 24 has one? I haven't done that stage yet.
Also, does the little sling shotting tech not work/work differently in this game, or am I just not doing it right? There's a backpack on Field 30 that looks like it requires the move where you put your line on the ground, pull back, and jump and let go simultaneously, but Umihara isn't getting shot forward correctly when I'm trying it.
Well, I got the backpack, but it was from hooking the backpack itself. Still curious about this technique though.

I bought this a couple days ago, and am much worse at it than I remember being at the PSX game. I guess the physics are a bit different in this one? Really, I'm having a hell of a time getting the alternate routes. And, I can confirm that it would seem like not many people are playing this, since my terrible times are ending up in the top ten of the leaderboards...

playing this game; love this game!!! one thing I hate about it tho is this: when you get the worst time in a stage, and still make it into the top 20 -_- seriously! more people need to get this game, play this game, and get good at it so these leaderboards blow up!!

The NintendoLife review of the game was full of three types of comments:
"9/10? Did NOT expect that!"
"Way too expensive" / "I'll get it once it's on sale."
"This game is from a great series, everyone should get it."
Guess which was the least common.

So, perhaps surprisingly, Sayonara Umihara Kawase is receiving an updated port to the Vita, featuring more levels, and the original SFC game. Goodbye again, I suppose. It's releasing at the end of next month. I'm definitely glad to see SUK vanilla wasn't the end for the series. kawasefan.net/sayonara-umihara-kawase-chirariwww.youtube.com/watch?v=FsXv3sYfHIAWhat's interesting to me is that several Japanese retailers are offering different pre order bonuses, and there are going to be some pre-release events in Japan. UK has always been super niche, so what's the angle here? Anyhow, super hyped, and can't wait for the release.

I think I have a reason to someday get a Vita now. I'm not really sure how to feel about this; I have yet to get a 3DS so I haven't been able to play Yumi's Odd Odyssey just yet, but I was kind of looking forward to getting a New 3DS someday, mostly to be able to play it. But now this will likely be the definitive version, on a platform I previously had no interest in. I'm not sure what I want to do just yet.

Surprisingly, Sayonara Umihara Kawase + (Chirari in Japan) came out on the US PSN...today. Two calendar days before Japan. So now I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for my Japanese copy to arrive. Anyone here planning to pick it up?

Grabbed it last night along with Shovel Knight. The level select screen looks different from what I remember of the 3DS version. The improved frame rate does make it feel much smoother. The SFC game is selectable right from the start and seems like an emulation. It's not translated at all but I think the only text was on the title screen, game over and credits sequence. You can set visual filters and screen width too.
Haven't gotten far enough to see any of the new levels, I never got too far in the 3DS game since I am terrible at it! I think I prefer the feel of the SFC game.

I have 3DS version, but no problems double dipping for this. Although it is close to Golden Week sale, so probably have to wait and see what is on sale before grabbing a PSN card. Since the original is included, all that leaves me is the PSX entry to grab right? It's a bit cheaper than the DS port.

Yup, you can get the PS1 version without paying too much, the DS version is kinda expensive, and this one will be slightly better since it doesn't cut off the top/bottom due to the lower DS resolution. Pretty sure the PS1 version is on the Japanese PSN if you want to go route too, for something even cheaper.
