Yup, you can get the PS1 version without paying too much, the DS version is kinda expensive, and this one will be slightly better since it doesn't cut off the top/bottom due to the lower DS resolution. Pretty sure the PS1 version is on the Japanese PSN if you want to go route too, for something even cheaper. I think the most complete PS1 version, Umihara Kawase Shun 2nd Edition, still sells for around $100. Definitely down from where it was a few years ago, but still a bit spendy.

I remember hearing these were really expensive, but I bought Shun 2nd Edition last year direct from Japan for about 2500 yen, I think, so the price must've plummeted. Amazon JP has them listed as lower, in cases of bad condition. Checking eBay prices though, looks like a bunch of gougers, especially difficult since the title listings don't seem to differentiate between them. www.amazon.co.jp/s/ref=nb_sb_noss/375-8981642-8395545?__mk_ja_JP=%E3%82%AB%E3%82%BF%E3%82%AB%E3%83%8A&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=%E6%B5%B7%E8%85%B9%E5%B7%9D%E8%83%8C(Well, that's all of the Umihara games...the original printing is at about 500 yen.) The SFC game is still relatively pricey to get ahold of but that's the 16-bit Nintendo market worldwide. The DS game ain't cheap either. Coincidentally I got the Umihara Kawase manga a little while back, I should scan some pics of it. It's really strange that it even exists considering the almost complete lack of story.

I would definitely appreciate some scans of the manga. What is it even about?

The DS port, Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition kanzenban, includes some exclusive levels that are not in the Playstation version. It also includes the Super Famicom game (which is mostly accurate, although after awhile of playing, I realized the giant tadpole boss doesn't speed up halfway through the battle like it does in the original game, oddly enough). I think it's worth searching out a copy of, especially since copies of it are less expensive online than the PSX versions are.

You know, I have a copy of the DS port and the second version of Shun, and I have never actually been able to figure out which levels exactly were added to the DS port of Shun. I've checked US and Japanese websites, and I think I've compared maps, and I just don't think I've been able to figure out which exactly are new. Do you happen to know?

I would definitely appreciate some scans of the manga. What is it even about? I have a ZIP of volume 1 that I got from umihara.org way back. Want me to throw it up on Rapidshare or something?

I don't know all of them; I also haven't even unlocked all the levels because it's fucking hard. But in the DS port, there are essentially two versions of Umihara Kawase Shun included; one that is more or less the Playstation level layout, and another that adds various hidden exclusive levels. I know I've found at least one level that's exclusive to the new DS version, but it's been awhile... I feel like starting up my DS again just to verify this hold on... When you select the special DS version of the game, and make it to Field 12, there will be a DS-exclusive level entrance just above the starting platform. It requires wall-climbing to reach. In the standard Shun game you just find a 1-up backpack there, but in the DS exclusive version you find a 1-up backpack as well as the entrance to Field 16. That's the only DS-exclusive level I can recall off the top of my head, but there are others.

If it's not too much trouble, I'd really appreciate that. X-pert74 Thanks for the info. I guess I never realized that shortcut was only in the DS version, despite often using that path. <_< I'd still like to figure out all the differences.

I desperately need your help:
I have finished the game once with ending 0 but no matter what I haven't managed to unlock the extra stages from stage 5 and stage 7. How the heck do I unlock them?

Are you saying you can't find the multiple exits, or..?
Both Stage 0, 5 and 7 have alternate exits that you should be able to see when completing the levels normally, or at least when reaching for the backpacks.

I'm just assuming the levels are the same for Sayonara+ here...
Stage 0: Dunno if you already know this one, but it's on the platform above the regular exit. Stage 5: After taking the ladder to the top, go left (to the backpack) and you'll easily see/reach it from there. Stage 7: You can see door 13 from where you jump down the ice slope, just ride that momentum to the far right and start climbing.
Good luck with the rest!
