Hmmm strange. I saw a french WAU which literally said on the cover that the game had french text. No other languages were mentioned so that made me suspicious. But perhaps the voices are in english? I'm not saying it is absolutely impossible, but in this case it is more likely they want the french customers to know that the game's in French and not an English only release. It's way more cost effective for a European publisher to simply print the discs with all available languages on there. As long as the space allows, which BluRays have plenty of. Believe you me, I have plenty of German game releses (not just on PS4) that are completely in English, voice and text, due to my console's language set to such.

Dissapointed, but not suprised, that the Draqon Quest tracks in Smash are just midi-esque versions. What I don't understand is why they couldn't have gone for original remixes. I understand why the orchestral versions aren't in, but just like with DQXI, I don't get why the alternatives are so bad. Hmmm strange. Nintendo games especially usually state on the front that the games are in Dutch, without explicitly telling you other languages are also supported.

There do seem to be at least some orchestrated tracks.

In both Sakurai's sample match vs a CPU and his showing off of the stage, non-orchestral versions are used.
And since the overture from the trailer isn't in, it's unlikely that the overworld theme from DQIII is the orchestrated version. And also, if they had the green light to use them, they'd probably only use those versions, or their own remixes. So they basically got to use them for the trailer and that's that.

Wonder if the guy who gave them DQ tracks to use is the same one who only submitted two songs for Cloud.

So, something interesting happened. Dragon Quest XI originally didn't really click with me for some reason. I played about 8 hours, just to where the two sisters join the team, but then forgot about it for a couple months. I picked it back up during my vacatian. And suddenly I was absolutely loving it! I'm currently 90 hours in and well into the post game, despite usually not playing games past the ending credits. I don't think I had this much simple fun with an SE RPG since DQIX and Nier almost ten years ago. My initial problem might just have been that I was not willing to meet the game half way. Dragon Quest, and XI specifically, has gotten some QoL stuff added over the decades, but it is still a very conservative series. It is simply not as breezy, quick and flashy as JRPGs have become since the 32bit times. I had to re-accustome myself to the deliberate pace, the smaller numbers, the slower leveling, just having to be willing to sit down with the game and taking the time it is going to take.

Dragon Quest is a slow burner and can take quite a few hours for the games to click I find. Also recent DQ games have a lot more story in the post game. The end credits anyone can reach but the story after the end credits is more for series veterans and usually well worth doing.
Going to wait for the Switch version despite owning it on PC already.

I really enjoyed Dragon Quest XI, especially as it opened up during post-game. While not groundbreaking, it has a very charming character - and I certainly enjoyed all the various references to past Dragon Quest games. One of the few games in the recent year where I felt some melancholy that the whole experience is done once you've completed everything. The other being Bloodstained.

Funny how we recently talked about that modern European releases have all languages on disc. Because I just started the PS4 version of The Evil Within and was surprised to see it sporting the French, German, Italian and Spanish voice acting and subtitles, but no the English one.

So now that Caverns of Hope is down, does anyone know how to access the Ecco the Dolphin PC fixed and enhanced version? I really wanna check it out.

Seems like the download links are still working. Just go to a wayback archive mirror of Caverns of Hope and copy the link directly into your browser without the wayback-prefix.

I was clicking on the link directly from the wayback Archive page. I’ll try copying and pasting it into my web browser.
