The only disappointment though is the soundtrack, it's not nearly as good as I was hoping/expecting, it's nowhere near on the level of Symphony, Aria and Lament (my 3 favs), maybe my girl Yamane was out of the 'vania game too long and her skills atrophied, because I'm frankly stunned by how underwhelming the soundtrack is, it's not terrible, but it just kinda blends into the background, I haven't heard any tunes yet that really stick out, it's a shame because they absolutely nailed everything else about the game. I felt the same way when I started playing. Voyage of Promise and Luxurious Overture really grew on me. There's a relaxed elegance that I really like. Gears of Fortune is decent track too, though it seems to have been composed by Ryusuke Fujioka instead of Yamane. The soundtrack also Keisuke Ito and Atsuhiro Ishizuna (for mostly 8-bit synthesized music) contributing to the soundtrack. It's a shame because the experience is dulled somewhat by the lack of toe tapping tunes, but they've absolutely nailed everything else, it feels like old times again. I was even skeptical about the 3D graphics before going in but they managed to capture the "feel" of the 2D games' graphics translated into 3D, while also adding some flashier camera movements here and there and lighting effects.

I thought the soundtrack was alright, sometimes even great, but I agree it’s not exactly up there with Yamanes best. Gears of Fortune is still great though.
My only problem with Bloodstained were 2-3 areas toward the end. Incredibly uninspiring, ugly and out of place in an otherwise fantastic castle. But maybe that’s just me..

I think part of the problem may simply be diminishing returns as the themes of a lot of the areas are the same or similar to many past Castlevanias and how many theme songs can you write for "Cathedrals" or "caves"?
But it is a shame because great, toe tapping music really adds a lot to a game, the last really great soundtrack for me was Super Mario Odyssey.

I know a couple of people that, while liking the game, think there's too much bloat in there. It being just a bit too long, with a couple of uninspired areas cut-able, and too much loot, too many enemy skills, too much NPC talking. Just that tad bit too much of everything and reliance on "Wow, IGA is back" to mask the shortcomings.

Guess who's back? Gamer Griff's back! (tell a friend) Yes, I haven't been posting much lately but I'm still here, I finished Yakuza 0 and I finally started up Bloodstained and oh wow, it's fucking awesome, I felt an intense wave of nostalgia wash over me when I started up the game, I missed these "IGAvanias" so much and it's wonderful to finally have him back. Welcome back! Though I wonder what happened to other forum regulars such as Jason X or Elvin Atombender...

Jason X threw a little hissy fit over a disagreement with me and wyrdwad last October and rather than just agree to disagree like a normal human being decided to just stop posting.

I believe, he got bored or plain lost interest and just quit. Simple as that. Same with akumajobelmont. Ultimately, different tastes lead to self-talk anyway, so why bother. Better to just find other people you can relate to.

I believe, he got bored or plain lost interest and just quit. Simple as that. Same with akumajobelmont. Ultimately, different tastes lead to self-talk anyway, so why bother. Better to just find other people you can relate to. He explicitly stated in the thread that he wasn't going to post here so long as me and wyrdwad continued to do so, I'm not trying to reopen any old wounds or create some sort of argument, just stating facts. Anyway, I had another thing to say about Bloodstained, something else that's a bit of a shame is while the story is pretty interesting to me so far, I find it kind of lame how most of the enemies, despite many being clearly based on past Castlevania enemies, have made up names rather than being derived from actual folklore like the Castlevania enemies were. It's understandable why they wouldn't want to hew too closely to the Castlevania formula for fear of getting sued by Konami, but it's a shame because that simply added a little more flavor, I miss stuff like hunting down Bigfoot in Dawn of Sorrow. And overall it's a shame all the lore of a decades long running series had to be tossed out and started from scratch thanks to Konami being such assholes. On the other hand it does free them up to get a little weirder with enemy designs and I've appreciated some of the weirder enemies I've encountered so far, it could also be argued Castlevania lore was getting a little bloated, by the end it was having less and less to with Dracula and maybe starting fresh was needed, but it sucks that it was something Iga had to do out of necessity, you know what I mean? Because Bloodstained does such a good capturing the feel of the old Castlevanias that it ironically creates a neither fish nor fowl syndrome that you can't help but long for the genuine article. But hey, not trying to be too negative, I love the game and would rather have a spiritual successor than nothing at all, it just never ceases to piss me off how Konami would waste an ip as cool as Castlevania and talent as great as Iga's.

I can understand the decission to just stop coming to a place where you don't like the climate anymore. Real shame tho, Jason X was pretty cool and who he had issues with haven't even posted that much since.

Been awhile since I last posted. Been busy with work lately. I’ve been playing, really, 3 games mostly: Spiderman for PS4, Watchdogs 1, and Warcraft 2. Also started Marvel ultimate Alliance: the Black Order. I’ve dragged out many of my old pc games from as far back as 2000, and several of my brothers as well, to start them up and finish what I had started oh so many years ago. Already finished Icewind dale awhile back. Baldurs Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, Neverwinter Nights, And Star Wars: KoTOR are on tap.

Is it just me, or are FPS games getting more and more gruesome and violent? I was looking at rumors about the next Call of Duty game and it said that the new Black Ops will be more gruesome than the already nasty Modern Warfare reboot coming this year. Our country had TWO mass shootings in the last week or so and you developers are bragging about how gruesome and realistic your shooter is,WTH? Sigh, I miss late 90's - mid 2000's FPS'es like Shogo,F.E.A.R.,Quake 2 and Half-Life(of course!) If this is how new FPS games will be, then I want 3D platformers to officially make a comeback.

Real shame tho, Jason X was pretty cool and who he had issues with haven't even posted that much since. All we did was not be happy with Sony's new draconian censorship policies and he flipped out like a baby. Anything vaguely related to women and video games makes the logic centers of some people's brains shut down, it's sad.
