The problem is that 'Kids' and 'Adult' doesn't really tell you anything about the difficulty, and probably everyone is going to pick Adult because Kids sounds like an easy mode. Whereas in reality, Kids is normal and Adult is hard. I had the opposite problem with REmake, where Hiking and Mountainclimbing are easy and normal respectively and I picked Hiking. And what does mountainclimbing even have to do with a survival horror game? Those crazy devs and their metaphors... What's hard then? Free climbing?
But yeah, the second half of Viewtiful Joe on Kids is definitely not easy.
ed.: Just remembered that Treasure's Alien Soldier taunted players in a similar manner, by calling the two difficulties "supereasy" and "superhard".

So, looking at the Switch, and hearing people talk, it's an incredibly fragile system or Nintendo really did not bring their A-Game to the hardware, is that right?
It seems that the joycons are destined to go bad due to design flaws, the kickstand that comes with the Switch is bad and the original item to dock it can even scratch it, even the Dpad on the Pro Controller is apparently terrible.
Are all of those true, looking around i did see a lot of people complaining about joycon drift and it was so bad that a lawsuit in America led to Nintendo giving Americans free repairs for joycons even after warranty is over, and the revised Switch and Switch Lite seem to not have fixed any issues with that.
Honestly, i keep wanting a Switch, Nintendo exclusives seem so great, but now i am just worried about controller quality!

Honestly, i keep wanting a Switch, Nintendo exclusives seem so great, but now i am just worried about controller quality! Go for it. I had mine for a while and love it. The joycons I have work fine and the dock doesn't do a thing to my Switch. I have no idea how widespread the issue is with Joycons, it's enough to get Nintendo's attention but that's about it. The dock is a nonissue. I had a screen protector to begin with and be gentle on the accessory. I heard testimonies of a bent dock at launch but not anymore since. The pro controller is YMMV, I don't own one but I heard enough people recommend it as there are people who say avoid it. You have plenty of options for controllers (8bitdo, Hori) that even if you get a bad one it isn't your only good controller. The stand seems to hold up on mine but it isn't a good angle. I use the stand I got with Kid Icarus Uprising (you can also find another stand).

The Switch Lite seems sturdy enough, and that’s what I’m going for. But I understand some people want the actual Switch experience, with the connecting to their tv and stuff. I don’t really need that though, so I’m good with the handheld version.

I wouldn't mind it, but i hear a lot of games run worse in handheld mode such as Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and a lot of games are badly optimized for a small screen and tend to have text that is too small or just too much clutter making the game harder than it needs to be.
With even Nintendo games getting this same complaint, from what i hear, Breath Of The Wild has suprisingly small text and Fire Emblem:Three Houses also seems to suffer from small text.
But i also hear other games run better on handheld or seem designed with handheld mode in mind, kinda a mixed bag from what i hear.

That's a shame since Nintendo products used to be built to last forerever (except for N64 analogue sticks maybe). Also having at least two different text sizes to choose from shouldn't be that hard to implement. It's a shame that some devs don't seem to get that a large TV and a handheld console screen are two completely different things. Any designer worth her/his salt should know that...

Not necessarily perfect, but can one play Switch handheld mode with a Pro Controller, or, through an adapter, some other controller like a DS4?
Do you really have to use the joycons and only the joycons in handheld mode?

Yes you can, but 'not necessarily perfect' is an understatement. I tried playing multiplayer Kirby Star Allies with the kickstand and detached joycons one time. Wow, was that uncomfortable.
You can also just buy replacement joycons (Switch Lite not withstanding) if they aren't under warranty (/pseudo-extended warranty for more common problems)

Just where is everyone? This forum is not as active as it once was. This thread is the most used on the site with a few other ones being touched once in a while. It would be nice to see some others like the owner of HG101 Discoalucard make more appearances. I can hear a pin drop from somewhere.

I wish I could spend more time here. Life has gotten in the way. That, and I seem to be spending an inordinate amount of time watching Mario Maker 2 videos. They're so darn addictive!
I can't even seem to get another game going. I seem to be ensnared in the decision-making process again. Grey Matter or Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People would be the way to go, I think. Or maybe Streets of Rogue, since I managed to get a free key. Or maybe I can get that fancy new auto-translate feature in the latest version of Retroarch going, so I can finally plumb the mysteries of Dynami Tracer or Treasure Conflix – or is that just going to throw up some obnoxious technical challenge? Maybe I should just keep it simple and play Final Fantasy VI on my mini-SNES. Decisions, decisions.

I’ve spent many an evening looking at my video game collection, but it oftens ends in me watching a movie instead. I have so many games I wanna play but I’m just staring at them. Hollow Knight? Yes, yes definitely.... someday very soon! The Sexy Brutale? Oh yeah, I wanna play that asap! Maybe tomorrow... Nier Automata? Ah, so pumped for that. I just need to be in the perfect mood first. The Last Guardian? Didn’t I already play that one? No? Wow, that’s a priority then! Just not today... Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise? Oh yeah, the RGG studio game I literally rushed out to buy day one and then forgot to actually play.. List goes on.

I just start every game I have a current whimsy for and then never finish it. The first 2-5 hours are usually the most exciting ones anyways.
On the other hand tho, I'm 50 hours deep into Iceborne and haven't finished that one yet. Being too occupied with decorating my room, catching endemic wild life to put as pets into said room, treasure hunting for the kitty tribes, or taking tasteful kitty photos for the researcher obsessed with them.
But I did play a quick'n dirty little indie p&c adventure My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant. Which is ok-ish funny, with lots of innuendo of course, but I got stuck not knowing how to progress way more often than I'd like to admit for such a short and limited novelty game.

You're closer to the Switch in handheld mode than you are to the TV in docked mode, so the small text is no issue for handheld play. If anything, it's more of an issue on the TV if you're sitting a bit farther away or if you don't have a very large one. Generally, though, you'll have a better experience in docked mode. You'll usually have a higher resolution, much more convenient multiplayer, better performance for some games, possiblity of wired internet connection, more controller options, GCN controller compatitability...Unless it uses the touch screen, docked is the better choice. And touch screen based games are pretty rare on Switch. Mario Maker is probably the only major release that's better in handheld mode. As for build quality. Joycon drift is the only thing you really have to worry about. That varies from person to person anyway. I did have to buy new Joycons twice, but that was after extensive use. The dock scratching and kickstand issues were blown out of proportion, and if you end up getting a Pro controller or a GCN adapter, you won't wear out your Joycons as fast. The kickstand especially works fine. The angle isn't great, but I use it all the time and the Switch has never fallen over. And as long as you're careful while docking/undocking

I haven't had any issues with playing in handheld mode which is pretty much the only way I use it. Text sizing tends to be generous. Drift is the only real problem. I don't really believe the dock scratching issues though. You'd have to be really rough with it in a way that's outright negligent or those reports are basically a hoax.
Some games including XBC2 use a floating resolution that possibly gets scaled up to 720p. It simply can't run as hot, loud or use as much power in handheld mode. That can't really avoided. There's always trade offs. Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee got criticism for have "poor" graphics, but it absolute sips battery and runs at a consistent 720p. For other games, being portable is more of a novelty than a major use case so they simply don't put in as much effort. I don't think that was the case with XBC2 though. That's really pushing things as is and the developers made sure to always have cutscenes run at 720p.
