My wife is playing Tetris 99 and they have an event for the new Pokemon game. So a Pokemon themed Tetris board and Pokemon music playing in the background. And, holy cow the music is irritating. Pokemon might be the highest profile game series that has the worst music.

Did anyone here end up buying the Genesis Mini? I haven't heard much news about it at all. Is it already sold out everywhere? Is it as hackable as the NES/SNES mini? I was wondering the same! The scandinavian Mega Drive Mini model is readily available everywhere still, but the console was never as popular here as the NES/SNES so maybe that explains it. I was gonna pick it up but then I just sort of... didn’t. Maybe for xmas!

Sega was pretty popular here in Germany, but the Mega Drive Mini is still easy to get. I think only Nintendo probably went for the heavily artificially limited run on their Mini consoles. Though of course it was always clear it won't fly as much off the shelves, since Sega was a lot better in making their classics readily available in collections over the years.

I got a Genesis Mini, but it was more about owning it than anything since I already played all those games a lot. I'm not interested in hacking it, so I don't know about that.

So on my YouTube channel, i uploaded the recently unearthed gameplay footage by Twitter user @ulchan2 of Toaplan's very last game to be developed before bankruptcy: Genkai Chousen Distopia. I hope someday that a surviving arcade board of GCD is found and preserved to avoid getting lost in the sand of time...

I've been obsessed with the Psycho Soldier theme myself, lately. It's so good <3 ahhhhhh I've also been 'obsessed' with it. But not volunarity. My brother currently selects it so often during Smash that it pops into my head often. Sega was pretty popular here in Germany, but the Mega Drive Mini is still easy to get. I don't think Sega is very popular with the more casual audience, which is probably a pretty big share of folks who buy these things. The Genesis mini kind of lacks the star power of the NES/SNES mini in that regard. Even the Playstation still is a relevant brand name, and the PS1 is relatively recent. Though I didn't get the feeling the PS1 mini did well at all either.

PS1 mini also had performance issues and odd version decisions. It seemed to a lot people that it was a rush job to cash in on the SNES Classic.

The PS mini had PAL Tekken 3,no Chrono Cross,Soul Reaver and, especially no Ape Escape! Of course it's a rush job.

It had the two Illusion games (which were a surprise considering the licenses), 1 cancelled game (Tetris, though a re-created from the ground up version), 1 What If? (Darius), and 1 previously untranslated game.

Outside of Sonic and maybe Mega Man there really isn't that much on the level of Mario, Zelda, Kirby, DK or Yoshi, as far as people less knowledgable on older games goes.

What's the previously untranslated game? The closest I can see is MWIV, but that was previously translated in 2012. Genesis/MD Mini certainly has a better selection of games than PS1 Classic, but I would say it leans a lot towards "hardcore" Sega fans. Honestly, I see it as more of an attempt to supersede those garbage AtGames Genesis Flashback things.

You're also getting a lot of well emulated games for the cost, considering the previous Nintendo Classics had half the roster, but around the same price.

Also, in no particular order (and not all necessarily my favorites but still SUPER CLASSICS: Wipeout? Silent Hill? Gran Turismo? Tomb Raider? Castlevania? Klonoa? Suikoden? CRASH!?! I mean, seriously...

As soon as the PS Mini gave a spot to the first Persona game, it was clear it won't be worth getting.
