As I understand it, the new DS Phoenix game has the option to play in English and Japanese. My question is, will the English option be polished, or should I wait for the offical U.S. release?

Personally, I'd wait on the US release - it might be harder to come by, but at least you're guaranteed to get it in perfect English. I doubt Capcom would do something stupid at this point, but to be honest, the situation really bothers me. Why would Capcom be releasing the English version in Japan first, then wait half a year to release it in the US?

Why would Capcom be releasing the English version in Japan first, then wait half a year to release it in the US? That's a point of disgust that's been brought up on the Court Records forums... I agree with it, but I can't be too outraged. After all, my load of homework won't lighten up until around the time the U.S. version gets released.

I'm importing it. I can't wait. Should be here by the end of the week. I'll definitely see about recording music.
One of the major features of the original Gyakuten Saiban DS re-release, other than the updated music and extra case, was that you could play it in English. Apparently a lot of Japanese folks enjoyed this option so they could practice the language. That's why there's going to be English in GS2 as well.
Capcom's not releasing it here yet because November is pretty much the DS flood month, with Elite Beat Agents, Yoshi's Island 2, Castlevania hitting in December, etc. that they don't want it getting overshadowed like the original. That said, I might guilt myself into getting the American version when it hits in early 2007.

So...does that mean that the translation would be better in the stateside release then?

In theory they should be 100% the same. That's how it was in the release of the original.

In that case I might break down and import it. Thanks!

Isn't PlayAsia asking something like $30 for the import? I might just change my mind about it...but then, I really should be saving my money, so I can pay off my new TV (that I bought for my future XBox 360 purchase)...

Yeah, that was the whole reason I asked. But the last thing I wanted was to import it and then get text like, "OBJECT! he lieing, damn, and prove it will!"

Well... when it comes for you, I MUST know everybody's English name. I look forward to see how the titles translate over.

*scratches* So if the translation is ready, what's the hold up? Are they putting together the English voice overs?
...It'd be so sweet if the import had English VA's when you switched to the English language.

Got this in last night, though I only got to play through the first case. The translation is just as good as the original, although people have reported some minor grammar and spelling errors later on. Hopefully those'll be cleaned up for the official American release. (Although this version will even say "Phoenix Wright: Justice for All" on the DS selection screen.) Like the original DS game, the music has been slightly enhanced, although graphically, it's basically identical. Overall, the music isn't quite as good in GS2 as it is in the first and third games.
As for names changes - the policewoman is Maggey Byrde (two weird homonyms?), her murdered boyfriend is Dustin Prince (he's a policeman, ha ha), and the stuck up jerk guy is Richard Wellington.
