The general impression I'm getting is that PW2 is a very kickass game and a worthy follow-up to the first, but not QUITE as awesome as PW1. This is to be expected... the gameplay is similar to the first with some alterations and additions here and there, and it can be pretty hard to capture the spirit of the original, especially with the great characters the 1st game had.
The way I see it, if the first game in a series is really freaking great, its sequels will never usually match up to their biggest bro. Certainly, that's not to say that the sequels are always bad... usually, they're very great games in their own right. I guess I could cite Devil May Cry as an example... the first one was undisputedly praised, but the second one... well, okay. Maybe that's a bad example, as almost nobody liked DMC2. As for DMC3, many liked it, but I believe it had more detractors than DMC1.
Same thing for Katamari Damacy... everybody loves both games, but We Love Katamari didn't change too much to the formula the first game had to offer. Thus, the first KD game is more beloved. If you do it right the first time, you'll also do it right the second time. But since it simply isn't the first time, it's not as flavorful the second time. Still, the second time is still a powerful drug in its own right.
Okay, now I'm just babbling. Back to focus; Still waiting for PW2... it does seem like the release date in America is January 16. It's a bit less than two months, but it's still going to be a bloody painful wait. Question: Is anyone who has the Japanese version also getting the American version? I believe I heard that the consideration for releasing PW3 in America will be dependent on USA sales...
