Avoid Tenchu 2 like the plague. The difficulty is erratic and the music doesn't come anywhere near as good as the original.

Tenchu 2 isn't that bad. What sucks about it is the loading times between missions and cut scenes.

ICO is a bit like Shadow of the Collosus in that it's more focused on provoking emotions than the actual gameplay. The combat is sparse but awful. Most of the game revolves around puzzle solving, which isn't bad but isn't particularly fun either. Still, the castle that you explore is an inredible feat of architecture, so it's almost worth it for that alone.
Sonic Adventure 2...ugh. Sonic's and Shadow's mission are mostly decent. Robotnik's and Tails' are okay, but the Knuckles and Rogue missions (especially the timed ones) are terrible. Still, it's better than Heroes/Shadow/the next-gen one. I wouldn't make this a priority though.
Eternal Darkness has an awesome plot and great atmosphere, plus a lot of neat gimmicks, but the game itself is only OK. Definitely worth trying though.
SSX3 is one of my favorite games of this generation and is definitely worth grabbing. SSX On Tour is decent too but not to the same extent.
Maximo: Army of Zin is a much better balanced game than its predecessor, and therefore a much better game.
Devil May Cry 2 is only okay. DMC3 is a LOT better, in every possible regard, but the original American release has a ridiculously unforgiving checkpoint system. Given the difficulty of the game, it makes it practically unplayable. The Special Edition uses the much saner version in the Japanese version (i.e. if you die at a boss, you start before the boss, instead of having to start each twenty-minute long level from scratch) which makes a lot more sense. It's one of the best action games of this generation, next to Ninja Gaiden.
Onimusha I can give or take. It was interesting before DMC came out, but it's kinda pedestrian now, although the 3rd one has a totally ludicrous plot. I grabbed the fourth one last week on sale but haven't tried it yet.
Dynasty Warriors is the Japanese equivalent of EA Sports games - yearly installments with new maps and some tweaks, but they're essentially all the same. At least the EA games have a solid foundation - Dynasty Warriors is fun for a level or two, but once the repetition sets in, it loses its luster real faster. Whatever strategy is involved is pretty negligible, and the fighting is pretty shallow. They have awesome soundtracks (especially 4) but you can skip these. Also, there are like two "expansions" to 4, including the XL and Empires pack. Dunno if they did the same thing of 5.
Samurai Warriors is the same thing except it takes place in Japan and has far worse music. Definitely not worth bothering with.

Alrighty... I've been wanting to get ICO for a while now, and it seems that I should. It seems like it's becoming rarer by the second, so I should spring for it soon. I've heard Sonic isn't quite what it used to be... ah, I yearn for the two-dimensional days of sixteen bits. Anyway, I may consider picking up SA2: Battle, but it won't be a huge priority. ED... if it's anywhere near as entertaining as RE4 or Killer 7, it's sold! I've heard lots of good about SSX 3, but now I've two additional questions on the matter; 1, I'm something of a completist, so should I get SSX Tricky as well? And 2. Which console are they best recommended for? I prefer the XBOX when possible. I'm playing the original Maximo right now, and I forgot how much I liked it. For a guy like me who loves a hard challenge without going too far over the hill, it's just the type of action game. I'll grab AoZ soon as well. I've actually heard lots of good about Tenchu 2... I don't even know how many games there are in the series right now, though. I really loved the first DMC, enough to be a crazy mofo and whomp the game on Dante Must Die mode. Whew, that was a good fight... I'm thinking I should definitely get DMC 3's special edition. But as I said before, I'm something of a completist, so... I hate to say it, but I gotta get DMC 2 first. Bound by my own damn code... lemme ask a new question: Can anyone say anything good about DMC 2? I may pick up Manhunt. If so, lemme ask once again; what console is the best for it? Also, once again, I prefer the XBOX when possible. Perhaps I can wait a bit on Onimusha... though, O3 has Jean Reno, so that's something going for it. Maybe later, but it won't be a huge priority. When DW2 first came out, I thought it to be da absolute bomb. It really hasn't improved that much from sequel to sequel, though. Ah well... and I've heard lots of good from a bud of mine about Samurai Warriors, but I guess that won't be a big priority either. Alrighty, so I think what I'll do is focus on ICO, Eternal Darkness, and Army of Zin. The others are interminable for now, but I have enough on my plate. I'm not even factoring in Viewtiful Joe 2 and Double Trouble, which was recommended in another thread. Thanks, fellas! Feel free to respond to the questions I asked or comment more about the games themselves. I'll also letcha know if I think of a few more that I'm on the fence about.

lemme ask a new question: Can anyone say anything good about DMC 2? It's short ;D Well emmm on the later difficult modes it's not that easy, which gives a little meat to the game

Of the games you mentioned I can only recommend:
Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven is my favorite in the series and is worth getting, definitely. There's so much replay value in this thing! You have quite a few stages, each with multiple enemy layouts. And three characters to play through as! There is also an alternate dub track where the game gets turned into a "comedy." It's not that funny though.
Samurai Warriors 2 (all the ... Warriors games are very similar, so why not get the newest one?) is a lot of fun if you are the type that likes to cleave your way through thousands of enemies. The Samurai Warriors games are a little better than the Dynasty Warriors games, imo. The SW games offer more moves/combos per character, and most of the characters are unique, as opposed to DW where several of the characters play the same. SW2 introduces a "special move" for each character, most of which really help to make the characters unique. There is a ton of replay value in this as well, as you have many characters to play through as, and you need to play on the higher difficulties to unlock the most powerful weapons.
Manhunt is probably the only game from Rockstar that I can appreciate on any level. The gameplay is absolutely awful, as in all Rockstar games... though it controls a bit better than the GTA series (I believe a different team worked on this game). However the atmosphere is amazing. They really nailed it on this one. The only thing I can compare it to is when you are a kid and you hear from another kid about this dupe of a dupe he got through a trade with a creepy guy he met through the owner of the local rental place. He tells you it's been banned in nearly every country you've heard of, and he could even get into trouble here if anyone in authority knew about it. You see, real people die in it
When you finally sit down and watch it, the video quality is so bad it's a little hard to tell what's going on. You sit there, feeling a little excited to be a part of this, but also a bit worried about what's going to happen. Then the scene hits. The scene all of this was building up to. Your heart is pounding, it's almost going in slow motion. You feel sick to your stomach.
Of course, ten years later you remember all of this and look it up on the internet. The whole thing was a hoax, though expertly done. You had a feeling this was the case, but it would have ruined it to admit it at that time.
So anyway, that was my long way of saying: "Rockstar got that perfectly with Manhunt. It's an awful game, but you just know that the guys working on that watched Flower of Flesh and Blood or SNUFF or any of the other hoax snuff films when they were kids and felt the need to express that whole experience in video game form. And that's Manhunt."

Well, the gameplay aint that bad. I love a chalange, and Manhunter delivers, especialy in the later stages. I agree with you on the atmosphere though. And it actualy raises some interesting questions about our obsession with violence.

If you could beat DMC1 on Dante Must Die mode you will hate DMC2, I think you will also find DMC3 Special Edition too easy. When DMC3 first came out I loved that the difficulty was ramped up. The game didn't give any me mercy and that just the way I wanted it. Anyone who tells you it's unplayable isn't trying hard enough.
Good things about DMC2: Dante is in it, the end. Alright, well the music isn't bad at all, it fits the atmosphere well, which is still dark and oppressive, it's just not gothic anymore. The first enemies you encounter look pretty cool. You can change guns instantly by pressing L2 which is a nice feature, this was kept for DMC3 but slightly modified. After you beat the game on both dics you can play as Trish, so if you like her I guess that's a plus. She's plays just like DMC1 Dante (you'll see what I mean when you play DMC2) and she has no story.

Erm there was one fight in DMC2 in an elevator which I thought was pretty cool.
Another vote for the atmopshere and if you can grab it on Xbox get manhunt on that thought there's really no superior version. It's rather..special..the first time you get someone with a red gauge bat attack.

Bound by my own damn code... lemme ask a new question: Can anyone say anything good about DMC 2? Yes. The main villain's voice actor is incredibly hilarious. Other than that, there's really no reason to play the game. I just pretend that the only Devil May Crys are 1 and 3, kind of like with The Exorcist. Seriously, I'd only pick up the Devil May Cry valu-pack thing if instead of DMC2, there was a 20 dollar bill. (Mainly cuz I already have 1 and 3.)
