While we're on the subject of female leads, if Castlevania continues, I want them to bring back Sonia just to stick it to IGA. Bonus points if it's a good game because Castlevania's first female lead hasn't had the kindest treatment out there (Legends sucked, and Resurrection looked even worse).

Crossovers like those wouldn't be bad, per se. I wouldn't want either one to be the new permanent style for the series, but they'd be fun diversions.

I think it way too early to answer this question in general. I can think of several recent iterations in a series where the developer for several years was dropped and the series was transferred to another developer, such as Metroid (Other M) or Bionic Commando (Bionic Commando Rearmed 2). You know, on second thought... What is a Castlevania game? A miserable pile of sprite rehashes. But enough talk. I see what you did there.

But we're talking about Konami here... Rocket Knight reboot (one of the most soulless games I've ever played) Silent Hill Castlevania 3DS Tengai Makyou 2014 as a card-based iOS "game"

To be fair, Seth0708's examples weren't Konami games.
From Konami's library, the M2-developed Castlevania and Contra Rebirth games were decent. Contra 4 is fairly well regarded, but I wasn't personally a fan.
Gradius 5 was Treasure-developed, but that's a bit of an edge case, considering Treasure contains a fair number of ex-Konami employees.

I was going more for a joke by using those examples, but as mentioned above there are some good ones out there. Like anything really sometimes switching developers works really well and sometimes it doesn't.

I hear Lords of Shadow 2 is an even bigger commercial failure than Mirror of Fate at this point. So much for the first LoS being "the best selling Castlevania game ever". I wouldn't be surprised if Konami is over it. At least as far as physical releases go. I have defended this franchises for good knows how long, but the last three or four games have been nothing but awful. I stopped playing LoS2 after 7 hours. Somehow it turned out even worse than both LoS1 and MoF combined. RIP Castlevania.

How could you even mess up a game where you play as Dracula?

How could you even mess up a game where you play as Dracula? I wish LOS2 was about goofy main universe Castlevania Dracula. A game like that would write itself. You could have him use his teleport and fireball cape as special moves. And then there'd be a meter that would fill up when you hit people, and you could have him say something like "HERE IS TRUE POWER" and turn into a demon for a little bit. And maybe you could even have a co-op mode where the other player could play as Death. IT'S NOT THAT HARD, PEOPLE.

How could you even mess up a game where you play as Dracula? It would have to top this.

But I don't think Castlevania is dead, no. Konami wouldn't give up so easily, not when they had LoS1's success so recently. Is it in the same ring of z-tier developer Hell that Silent Hill has been sent to? In all likelihood, yes.

Alternatively, they'd foist more lazy cash-ins on us like Harmony of Despair and that iOS Super Puzzle Fighter ripoff.
