The industry still would have shifted to 3d that SEGA IT SELF STARTED.
has it ever been stated as a solid fact that Sega rushed 3d into it? Reading the Saturn article on WIki it's stated as only a rumor.

Btw the comparrison between the Saturn and the PS3 is cute but there's one glaring difference you don't mention, the Saturn had been preceeded by 2 major failures and had left the market confused (Sega CD and the 32x) and a lot of people wonder what Sega would replace the Saturn with before it was even out. I do agree that Sony is totally ready to botch up.
And on the grounds that the 32x exists, Sega was making attempts to include 3d in its products however the fact that the Saturn has such a 2d focus would suggest that they didn't intend for 3d to be its selling point, with the announcment of the Playstation they may have reconsidered.

If the PS3 is a total failure I will eat my M.Bison hat. To think Sony will crash, burn and close down with the PS3 is just delusional

I'm of the mind that the industry would be better off without Sony and Microsoft.
Nintendo vs. Sega is the way things always should've been. Two GAME COMPANIES squaring off against each other.
Instead what we got is two general media companies coming in and not only ruining gaming, but also trying to turn video game consoles into all-purpose home media players.
I mean geez, would you ask a DVD player to play Saturn games? No you wouldn't. But thanks to Sony and Microsoft, game systems are expected to do a lot of things BESIDES play games... which I guess is to be expected, as despite the supposed "Quality Control" we've got (you know, the same quality control that allows us to get more and more cruddy Final Fantasy games yet keeps quality titles like Shadow Tower: Abyss in Japan and screws over perfectly fine games simply because they're 2D), we still get a lot of games that aren't even worth playing.
I hope Sony fails, and that Sega tries again, and that Sega and Nintendo collectively oust Microsoft.

Okami was made by Capcom. It's not their games devision (God of War, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Cloud, PaRappa the Rapper etc.) but their rushed hardware, price issues, all but optimal customer support and their unfounded aggressiveness in questionable matters and that combined with their massive hatred of all that is old-school and 2D has massacred whole genres, at least in the west.

If the PS3 is a total failure I will eat my M.Bison hat. To think Sony will crash, burn and close down with the PS3 is just delusional I'm sure many a fan said that about Nintendo once upon a time. Had it not been for their dominance in handheld gaming, Nintendo may have gone the way of Sega... I have no doubt that Sony as a corporation will be around for a long time yet, since they've got interests in many things aside from gaming to keep them a float. But the PS3, in my opinion, has already many black marks against it's name. By failing to acknowledge Microsoft's strides in Online gaming (and providing something of equal to it), trying to steal Nintendo's thunder at it's most basic level (the tilt-sensing), and their bullish attitude toward gamers (the constant pushing of the Blu-ray format and the price-point of the PS3), I'd say Sony's days of gaming dominance are coming to a close. Good luck to all parties in the Next-Gen war, however.

I have no interest in discussing politics, but this corporations policies are severely detremental to video games, gamers, and their industry. Microsoft is worse. Nintendo may have been a pain to do business with back when, but these two are worse despite their lauding themselves as nice guys. And these days it is not just developers who get neglected, it is also gamers. About those comments that they should have gotten into this industry because PS and PS2 are good consoles: Consoles do not make games. Those games would have been released elsewhere if those corporation had not made consoles.

The moment Microsoft got G.Rev to somehow port Senko no Ronde over to the 360 was already more than enough for me to wonder why people still hate the company. I mean seriously, you don't see Microsoft clamping down on the Japanese doujin scene for making games on their operating systems, screaming at them to pay for licensing fees to develop on this specific platform, right? That alone is enough for me to give them my respect.

Good luck to all parties in the Next-Gen war, however. From what I understand the Games division is the only part of Sony still making money. However sony is also in the movie business and that still proves profitalbe.......but if Blu ray doesn't take off (and I don't think it will, HD DVD and Blu Ray are interim formats another format is in the works) Then Sony's in trouble again. The moment Microsoft got G.Rev to somehow port Senko no Ronde over to the 360 was already more than enough for me to wonder why people still hate the company. I hope it's true that G Rev is shipping that game around to US Publishers.......I also hope if it does come out here it's not hard as fuck like that OTHER Grev game on Dreamcast every on drools over

I also hope if it does come out here it's not hard as fuck like that OTHER Grev game on Dreamcast every on drools over Which one? There's Border Down and Under Defeat, excluding both games they co-developed with Treasure. And Senko no Ronde isn't that hard, especially if you're somewhat familiar with Virtual On. It's actually more difficult when you play against good human players. Also, I really hate the direction Sony's taken with their Playstation line. That's the main reason why Microsoft entered the console market because they predicted that it was going to be a threat to their operating systems, which has finally shown its true form with this generation.

Border down I want to find the programers in their homes sneak in at night when they are making love to their Kasumi Pillows AND BEAT THEM SENSELESS BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT BORDER DOWN HAS DONE TO ME! and Actually the XBOX was made because Shamus Blackly though about it on an airplane. Don't go by that shitty CNBC special last night, they got alot of things wrong and left a ton of stuff out.
