I've got a question for you all. Do you think Sony should never, EVER, EVER have entered the video game industry?

I think Sony entering the videogame industry was great; I can't say I always like the company or their practices, but, I love the games that are released on their consoles.
It's also worth noting that Sony made life a hell of a lot easier for developers when they first came into the industry. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but, the fact that Nintendo was screwing third parties as hard as they possibly could when they dominated the console market is something a lot of people seem to ignore.

Sony has always had a ham-handed way of doing things (which they'll probably finally pay for this generation) and I've hated their general attitude, but I'll be damned if I don't play the PS2 more than any other system I own currently. Hell, you gotta give them credit, they swiftly and singlehandedly took the market away from Nintendo and Sega and have managed to keep their hold on the industry so far.

whos to say those games on the PSX wouldn't have been on the Saturn? Maybe they'd have been on the N64? We don't know
Given all the bumps so far I don't expect Sony to be in the video game industry much longer.

whos to say those games on the PSX wouldn't have been on the Saturn? Maybe they'd have been on the N64? We don't know One of the biggest games of the generation was Final Fantasy 7. The crappy video decoder on the Saturn wouldn't have been able to output cutscenes anywhere near the quality that the Playstation did, and the 3D capabilities weren't nearly as good either. The N64 had better 3D but limited space and had a higher price tag. The Playstation was a good medium between the two.

I love Sony's home consoles, I don't like the company attitude The PS1 and the PS2 are some the greatest consoles ever.
Oh and Sony also made some good games by itself and by second party developers like SOTC, PaRappa The Rapper, Twisted Metal 2, Ape Escape series, GT series, Legend of Legia, Rapid Reload and more.

The Saturn very well could have been a very different system if sega wasn't forced to rush it. Everything Sega did with the Saturn Sony is doing with the PS3. Concidence? Saturn- wasn't ready to Launch PS3- isn't ready to launch Saturn- Launched with too few games PS3- Launching with too few games Saturn- lost lots and lots of 3rd party support PS3- losing alot of exclsuives from 3rd parties Saturn- Bitch to develop for PS3- Bitch to develop for Saturn- Multiple processors poorly implmented PS3- Cell is poorly configured for game aplications.

I use my PS2 way more than my Gamecube, simply because there are more RPGs on the PS2. The problem with Sony lately is that they've been screwing the consumer with these massive prices and the familiar "first run syndrome."
I'll just wait a year and a half to get one, just like I did with the PS2.

The Saturn very well could have been a very different system if sega wasn't forced to rush it. You're sort of right; it would have been a 2D system. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that the only thing that was rushed on the Saturn was the 3D implementation, which was tacked on in a panic when they saw Sony was releasing a 3D system.

Does anyone remember the games that Sony came out with before they had their own system. Remember Bram Stoker's Dracula, Cliffhanger, and Hook? Playing those games made my teeth hurt...

They still could have gone the 3d route with nintendo doing the n64 only they would have been allowed more time to do it. Too many what ifs there and there's really no way we'll ever know.

Hey hey, what Pac-Man and ET never would've gotten their Atari 2600 titles? Don't you think other titles would've caused the downfall eventually?

Yes the industry would've crashed with out them because there was not quality control then and alot of grade AAA shit would've still flooded the market place.

Exactly, even if Sony never would've entered the market, console-selling games like Final Fantasy VII still would get released. I know both Capcom and Square were getting pretty much fed up with Nintendo's policy, so Final Fantasy VII would've just had nicer 2D graphics (which is believable, what with the hooves and all) than before or worse 3D graphics than were originally in the game, and Capcom's Megaman series would've actually benefitted from the Saturn's overly-superior 2D processing.
