I think I'd have less of a problem buying it for 3ds if the handheld was nicer to hold and use tbh Agree about the comfort thing. I could play the DS Phat, DS-Lite and DSi till the cows came home- all were comfortable as hell. But my 3DS XL kills my hands, and it's sufficiently larger than any of the other DS units I've owned. Won't stop me playing, but they aren't making it easy... I had the same problem with the 3DS XL, it totally cramped my hands after about 15 minutes. So I tried a few grips for it. I was pretty happy with the dreamGear Comfort Grip ( link), but recently I switched to the CYBER grip link. The CYBER grip is astoundingly comfortable, and I am not being hyperbolic either. It makes holding the 3DS XL for hours a complete non-issue, absolutely worth every last penny. Cool, thanks for the info man.

Thanks for that!

Yeah, I know several people who swear by one of those. Personally I got a $5 one from eForCity or something. It's decent. Hard plastic of good quality, but probably not quiiiite as comfortable. EDIT: Also if you go for this one, make sure you have something handy you can pry the 3DS out with. The locks on the back of the device are pretty difficult to remove by hand. I'm also enjoying the game a ton, especially the online, even if I'm pretty mediocre at it. I've had decent results in team smash for glory, though! Unfortunately about a week ago I did a factory reset on my 3DS in hopes it would fix an issue I'd had for a long time with the cameras, but it didn't, so I'll need to get everyone's friend code again (and vice-versa since I have a new FC now)

Holy shit, turns out the game will straight up kick you out of online matches if you taunt too much or only attack one other person in 3-4 player free for alls. Probably the most draconian anti-griefing/trolling measures I've ever seen in netplay, and it shows they weren't unaware that Brawl's online lobbies became filled up with moronic "taunting parties" in its later years, where anyone who refused to taunt repeatedly would be ganged up on. At least this ensures that those will probably never happen again.

The New 3DS was just released in Japan, so you Smash players know what this means - easy Smash Attacks, Amiibo support (once they get released along with the WiiU version) and in-game Miiverse posting (which isn't possible in standard 3DSes/XLs due to Smash being quite a RAM devourer). Following Nintendo's philosophy on releasing new models of their old-ish consoles, it'll probably leave Japan (and Australia) if it's a confirmed hit. We just have to wait.
Oh, and some ROM hackers managed to leak out some unused sound files from the game's cart - more specifically, voice files of the announcer screaming the names of Smash staples that aren't included in the 3DS version such as Tournament Mode/Tourney, Event Match, Boss Battles and a mysterious new 8-Player Smash (not to be confused with Tournament/Tourney Mode). The people who've heard about it are speculating that these were either cut out, are WiiU exclusives or even the secret stuff you unlock if you link up both versions later this year. Hmmm...

I'm also rather surprised I'm enjoying this way more than I thought I would. Also, really digging alot of the new characters like Pac-Man. I guess the fact that the older characters are same old, same old, is what's keeping me away from them. Tried online a few times and there was quite a bit of lag. This convinced me to preorder the Gamecube Adaptor and Controller Bundle on Amazon for the Wii U. Well from the matches I've watched on youtube, it seems a lot of effort was made to make some of the weaker characters more viable this time around. Many characters who were either nerfed in Brawl or never very good to begin with seem to be more aggressive opponents now. From what I've seen, Zelda, Bowser, Sonic, Ness, and Yoshi (among others) are some good examples. Their movesets are about the same as before, but the power/knockback behind their attacks are notably better. Perhaps it was a smart move to have Namco-Bandai on board for development.

I'm still really wary of buying this game, mostly due to the reports on the controls. I have a feeling that like other have said, I'd get cramps from trying to play and that I couldn't play it as well as I could on a pad. Plus all the reports you hear of the stick breaking.
And as I'm not really a big online play person (I usually do the odd match once in a blue moon) I have a feeling the game would get boring for me (personally) quickly.
I'd have tried the demo, but I have no room on my memory, and I don't wanna buy a new one or delete anything off ATM.

The level editor reminds me of one's seen in old Worms games. Results are even the same, but without any props.

Definitely hyped for that level editor. Gonna *try* and hold off picking up the Wii U version until the Holidays since I've got the 3DS version and Pokemon to tide me over until then, but we'll see how well that goes...
Quick question for those that have it. I don't think I've heard one way or the other - is there a way to use your 3DS data to unlock everything in the Wii U version? I know there's version specific content, but I'm hoping my trophies and characters carry over.

You can transfer over custom characters, but I don't think that'll even unlock the custom moves it uses. Trophies/Characters have to be unlocked freshly. To be fair, characters are unlocked super-quick. I think you unlock the last one at 100 matches. Trophies are version exclusive for the most part.

more like clickbait amirite Woo! *high five* In all seriousness, getting to play this with a Gamecube controller again makes me want to retroactively call the 3DS version the worst game ever made. And actually I'm kind of mad how much more it feels like there is to do. So I guess, the downsides to the Wii U version are that the different stages just seem to be the ones from Melee again. And that's sad because I don't like Onett. Magicant wasn't perfect. But it wasn't Onett again. And I don't really like this classic mode. I'm much more of a fan of the one on one modes. This 8 player shenanigans feels to easy to sit back and pick off the last stragglers.
