Hello, hopefully someone can help me out a bit with this. I am trying to emulate Croc for the Sega Saturn but I am running into a lot of trouble. I have tried different emulators (SFF,Yabause) different roms but the game keeps freezing at the title screen. On the off chance the game starts it looks, well.... I have tried other games and it seems to work fine. Any idea of what could be wrong and what the issue could be? I am not really an emulator expert so any suggestion would help, although I realize there is not much info to go on. Many thanks in advance!

Apparently this game has emulation issues. And it's apparently only playable on SSF 0.10 Alpha R1.

I've heard SSF has a slight input lag problem, I suggest going with the superior PC/PSX ports.

There's no input lag on SSF.

There's no input lag on SSF. Just because you don't notice it doesn't mean it's not there.

Well, everything has input lag. However, if you can't notice it, then it's not a problem.
Besides, it depends on what hardware you are using the emu on, the less powerful CPU, the longer the response will be. SSF doesn't really rely on your GPU that much, so that offers no real advantage. Also, it depends on how you have configured the emu. Obviously enabling CPU intensive options will increase the likelihood of lag.

If you just want to play the game, it's reasonably easy to get the Windows version running with a Glide wrapper.

Maybe he's a Saturn fan and would rather play that version.

Croc on the Saturn was a fantastic port of a decent game, I reckon! The characters look a little more chibi, but that's probably down to having to use quads and the lower resolution. But it's still a great port - a LOT better than most PSX to Saturn ports, for SURE. For all the changes and effects that were toned down or removed, they added some nice little touches too - the scrolling cloud background layers look rather spiffy

Well, everything has input lag. However, if you can't notice it, then it's not a problem. Which is exactly why I told him that the configuration he was looking at for playing Croc is the one where it is most likely he will notice input lag.

But you said "you've heard". I've played plenty of SSF and there's no input lag.
It might play slow if your CPU is not powerful enough, but there's no actual noticeable input lag caused by a faulty emu.

But you said "you've heard". I've played plenty of SSF and there's no input lag. I think other people are more reliable than me. I've also played plenty of SSF and I have noticed input lag. I also think several people are more reliable than one (you). That you don't notice any input lag in SSF at all just tells me you're not particularly sensitive to it. This is like me saying SSF has bad sound quality, only to be countered by a 100% deaf guy saying "I don't hear any bad sound quality). Your opinion is contributing a lot!

Or it could be the other way around - maybe people are super hyper-sensitive to input lag? To the point where they're convinced it's there when it isn't? For the record, I've never had any problems with input lag in SSF - and I actually find the emulator a great tool when it comes to actually measuring and comparing input lag in my various SCART to HDMI solutions I use to run my real Saturn through, compared to the fast response I get on my PC. Chalk me up as another one who doesn't get any input lag in SSF. Or notice it anyways. I might be one of those plebs who hasn't evolved enough to notice mini-micro millisecond timing differences.

No. It's easily observable and measurable if you wanted to. It's like saying "Maybe you've just convinced yourself the sky is blue when it's actually red". Let's ask the blind person to be sure.
