Overarching story? Not really important. But I do like when characters have a reason to interact with each other, like the KoF games. I learned about the KOF backstory through Saigado.

It's not important, but I generally prefer my fighting games to have ones for each character anyway.

Like the porno Im only for the action. And way better if another human being is involved, after so many years I find playing by myself empty. I like my porn with a story, so at least the fucking has some context that can actually make it more arousing. I can't jack to story porn, because creating a story for porn automatically engages a more critical minded part of my brain that quite frankly has no place in jacking. Like, I really like Radley Metzger films, but they don't arouse me at all. I think of them as simply good movies revolving around fucking.

I used to review porn, so you can tell what camp I'm in. Fighting games that lack backstories are worthless to me. There's no personality to them, and plenty of others offer that and similar mechanics. The only games that can get away with that are crossovers, because those already have an established narrative; all the characters fighting each other to reach some mega-powerful threat ruining time and space. Even Smash has that in a form.

That's how I feel about John Holmes movies and the films of Billy Herrington.

My life would be 100% better if you would all stop talking about how you like to fuck yourselves.

XXX-COM: Terror From "the D" This brings up a valid point. The porn industry has a long, storied history of riffing on the titles of popular movies. The romhack scene needs to step up their game on start doing something similar. Day of the Tentacle pretty much works on its own.

In the Asuka 120% BURNING Fest. franchise since March 1994, the atmosphere is light, because characters don't seem to be angry at each other. They talk like "Are you ready?" then the other is like "Yes." Think of the the tournament scenes in the Pokemon anime, but a few years earlier.
For no plot at all, some pre-SFII ones lack a plot.

Can we all collectively agree that Virtua Fighter has the worst plot, by the way? I don't even know how you're supposed to figure out the thing where they made Kage's mom into Dural, since none of the "main" games in the series never bother to have endings. And don't include stuff like Virtua Quest. That way lies madness.
