I rarely play on PC these days, and I decided to uninstall steam since I don't use it much. My PC is a bit long in the tooth and I'm eventually going to an iMac at some point. I don't think I'm going to jnstall steam on it, these decisions just seem so incredibly bad for the consumer. I don't mind modders who make good content to be compensated for it, but at a such a low rate? No thanks.
And not to mention the trash that gets through steam green light I have little faith in this decision.
I saw one or two cracks from some people on reddit saying that bad mouthing Gabe to his face would slow down Half Life 3, er, Vaporware 3, they can keep it for all I care.

I'm going to guess Valve flat-out doesn't understand PR because GabeN himself has gone on Reddit to address the matter. Long story short he didn't even bother choosing his words and got downvoted to Hell in at least one post. Did he think he had some sort of magical hate-diffusing aura or something?! How much of an idiot is he if he goes out to answer questions himself when he's obviously unprepared?
Are they trying to actively commit PR suicide or something?

Dude, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing. Plus Reddit practically hates everything so it was a losing battle no matter what. Since it's the weekend, Valve's probably short-staffed 'til Monday. Expect some clarification and/or PR comments from Erik Johnson or Doug Lombardi on Monday.

Let's face it, that won't happen.

Oh, quit trying to be so realistic, would you? It doesn't help those of us who feel let down by all this.
Sorry, I'm just frustrated and am torn between supporting Steam-centric devs I actually like (like the EYE Divine Cybermancy guys) and just switching to GOG permanently out of sheer spite. Because Valve apparently can't stop scalding itself with Steam and I'm sick of the drama and bad business.

I'm a diehard fan of several Konami franchises, so I know all too well how it feels to watch a company flush itself down the shitter.

The insult to injury is that Valve has apparently pushed both Black Mesa Source AND Half-Life 3 to the bottom of their priority list and this to the top. Can't Valve do ONE thing right, just for once? Or is this their agenda for the forseeable future?

Can't Valve do ONE thing right, just for once? Or is this their agenda for the forseeable future? Was there ever any legitimate evidence that Valve was currently working on HL3? Seems like internet speculation, but I don't really follow the Half-Life scene. Speaking of which, we've got only a few more days left to download the Silent Hills P.T. off PSN before it's gone for good. Still no PS4, unfortunately. Is it possible to add it through your PSN account on the Playstation website, at least?

I really doubt that Half-Life 3 is even on Valve's radar, let alone seeing any real development. Valve has been pushing the "games as a service" angle for years now: their focus has been on F2P games like Team Fortress 2 and DOTA 2, and the monetization of those games. TF2 has a similar paid user created content model going for user created hats and such, as an example. This is on top of how Valve has handled the Steam storefront, pushing user-curated content over actual quality control (Jim Sterling basically makes his living mocking the ridiculous crap that people try to sell for actual money on Steam). The Skyrim mod situation is just another case of Valve doing what they've been doing for years, delegating more and more of the work of managing Steam to the community while finding ways to take a cut from user-generated content.

It just seems bizarre, since these guys are already rich as shit. What's the point? Are they truly that far removed from regular life now?

They are always seeking to earn more money than last year by any possible way, if a company benefits stales or recess for a couple years they are considered as good as done for.

Regular corporations, sure. Gabe is a billionaire. What does more money really matter at this point?

Yeah Valve is privately owned. It's not a listed company.
