I know it won't happen but if people really want to make their stance on this clear, UNINSTALL STEAM!! Don't use it, use another platform or storefront. When valve sees their user base nose dive, I think they'd change their tune pretty quick. Just don't buy Steam mods. You don't have to get rid of the service because of one boneheaded decision that doesn't affect the entirety of the service. Fair enough. I personally don't play much games on PC anymore as it is, I uninstalled Steam and honestly, I don't really miss it that much. At the very least, if Valve were to find a better, more sensible way to do this than to let the community police this (as they've done an "impeccable" job with Steam Greenlight/sarcasm), I'd be all for it honestly. As long as the mods are priced decently, or instead, maybe have it where the modder just has a "tip jar" for the mods, I'd prefer that honestly. But since I'm not on PC much as it is, I guess my point is rather moot.

Greenlight has been handled very poorly, but I never even go into that part of the service, so it's a non-issue for me. There are more than enough games already on Steam. I'm not really worried about new stuff getting approved.

People who make games need places to sell their games, and Steam has a massive userbase. Steam needs new games to sale, so they allow more games on their service. This isn't like some closed game collection that occasionally gets DLC downloads, it's a marketplace. You need new wares or business will eventually dry up.

It doesn't affect my ability to find new games to play. My wishlist is already 150 games long, which is honestly more than enough to last for a lifetime.

So, only slightly relevant here, but you know how Rockstar have apparently been banning GTA5 players over mods? Well, it turns out that SP mods are fair game, where previously people were claiming that they couldn't play offline.

A good sum-up of why the Steam program went tits up. Didn't realize just how miniscule actual modder income was (having to sell four-hundred dollars worth to even make any profit, jesus).

So is Black Mesa kind of a fallout of this whole thing? Haven't played that myself, but I've heard its a cool mod. Now its a 20$ early access project and apparently the paid one is the only one getting the Xen because it wasn't doable in the old engine or something.

That one is obsolete -for the present time - but Sterling's opinions on Mod selling should probably be relevant again in some time.

Jesus Christ, what the hell did I just watch. This is precisely why I don't follow Youtube "celebrities".

That's the former Destructoid reviews editor, he recently became an independent journalist because he got tired of behind the scenes shenanigans in the gaming press when it comes to relationships with publishers. His youtube page only recently started picking up steam, but he's far from a celeb on the site.

Yeah, that whole holier than thou jerk thing was a persona he started using to parody how people kept calling him stuck up. He's pretty normal in podcasts and articles.
...well, normal in podcasts may not be too accurate, considering how he somehow keeps going on tangents about porn. His Dismal Jesters series was great. "Jonathan, you should be The Grudge of Boston!"

Ah, I don't really follow gaming press, so I have no clue who's the kids are talking about in that field. Either way, this guy rubs me the wrong way. No doubt his persona is something that's being played up for entertainment purposes, but it just seems annoying to me. I'm the kind of guy who never rooted for heels in WWF, basically.

Then Yeah, you won't like his opinion pieces at all! My guess is you will survive without it.

He used to be so much worse. His "character" used to bleed into the videos proper back when he started on the Escapist. Sometimes it still does, but not as bad as it used to. I kind of like him now. In the sense that he has my attention. I'll pay attention to his soapbox, I don't have to agree with him.
