One thing I would like to see about the remake is not so much any major changes to the story but maybe some alternate sequences based on your actions. And also more fleshing out of the background of characters (particularly Vincent) & history of the world that could be part of optional side quests. It would be nice to also have expanded areas of some cities. Every other city/location felt much smaller than Midgar in the original game.
I was always disappointed that you never got to fight Sephiroth in his human form. My memory of the game is vague but at one point Cloud et al are chasing Sephiroth and find a dead giant serpent at one point. It would be nice if there were some conditions or time limit that allowed you to catch up to Sephiroth and fight him.
I think it should be possible to prevent Aerith from dying at that pivotal scene by doing alternate actions of some sort but if that happens then it triggers a later event where she dies or knowingly sacrifices herself. I would definitely not want some sort of optional subquest where you can resurrect her after her death.
As for the battle system...not sure if it would be too big of a change to allow for a party of 4 in the group. If they're going to update the battle system it'll probably require some significant overhaul regardless. Giving some of the bosses some extra attacks or alternate patterns would keep things fresh (not that I remember much of the original battle patterns). It would be good if they removed random encounters and showed enemies on screen. Let us skip those darn long summon animations.

I would definitely not want some sort of optional subquest where you can resurrect her after her death. That'll do wonders for the narrative. Fuck no. Seriously, the scene is iconic and it serves a purpose in the story. It's that "shit just got real, and it got real personal" moment. Don't change it.

Yeah, being able to revive her would render the apex of the story completely pointless.

At Cloud's funeral every one was there. Aeris is there (she got revived by a pheonix down)

The only way she should come back is as a Shambling Zombie on the overworld map that you can't fight, but if you touch her, she bites and starts draining your HP until you shake her off.
Just because that's the most annoyingly pointless thing I can think of to do to fans.

I guess a "she's under the control of evil and you have no choice but to kill her" death might piss off fans more, but still, Sepiroth just slaughtering her was such a big part of the original story, it shouldn't be changed.

Actually, I thought of something worse.
Somehow, they bring her back, but she's possessed by GACKT from Crisis Core.
But still only just appears on the world map and bites you to drain your HP.
And replace items in your inventory with that stupid poem GACKT kept reading.
...yeah, I wasn't too much of an FF7 fan, so I'm just intentionally being an idiot about it.

Make Aeris Resurrection plot a optional DLC. Nostalgia and tears of fresh new fans will make it the most successful DLC of all time.
And then when you use it its about as same as using Gameshark to put Aeris back to your party.

RESURRECTION Final Fantasy VII Remake to come in multiple installmentsI called it! Well, I would have called it if Squeenix hadn't put out a press release before I could get to my computer. But it was obvious: judging from how much stretching and padding of the original's first twenty minutes are evinced in in the trailer, it looks like 1 FF7-hour will equal 4–5 FF7R-hours. Ick.

That's more horrifying than the prospect of seeing Doctor Hojo in a speedo in 3D.

tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more of Midgar.

tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more of Midgar. I share the sentiment, but what I really would have liked to see more of was stylish pre-rendered backdrop Midgar. I'm not confident that hyperreal HD 3D Midgar will be an adequate substitute, but I would very much like to be pleasantly surprised.
