Yeah, sign me up. Although padding and slow pacing are probably THE worst aspect of modern JRPGs, so actually, I'm bailing. Unless a ton of content and cyberpunkish scenarios get added.

tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more of Midgar. Though I never beat it, this is what surprised me about the game when I played a good chunk of it in 2004 was how little time you spend in Midgar compared to how much of it was the focus in promotional materials.

tbh I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more of Midgar. I share the sentiment, but what I really would have liked to see more of was stylish pre-rendered backdrop Midgar. I'm not confident that hyperreal HD 3D Midgar will be an adequate substitute, but I would very much like to be pleasantly surprised. If they can make that shit look like Kowloon 2025 I will be all over it

I really wouldn't mind Midgar expanded heavily myself. Wishful thinking, but if part 1 was basically an open world Midgar RPG, I'd gladly put up with a padded plot just to explore it.

Midgar looks very dark and gritty in the new trailer. I think it's interesting to compare its atmosphere to the Midgar in the original game, which still feels like a gritty hellhole to me, despite the dated graphics.

The episodic approach is interesting. I wonder what that marketing model will be? $15 per episode or $70 for the whole shebang. I'm obviously rooting for the latter on that.
Episodic design allows for user feedback to influence later installments, which could be good or bad, let's remain optimistic.
This kind of modular gameplay design allows for things like backstories for characters who are popular and also for greater depth in scenes that can allow it. Longer production time overall, leading to better game design is a possibility. Maybe the pay-per-episode model would actually be better, since it would promote more development.

Episodic...
What appears to be god damned action combat in the latest trailer... (Not every bloody game has to be Kingdom Hearts, it's bad enough FF15 has that kinda combat system *sigh*)
My hype levels are dropping very quickly. So quickly it makes me sad. I want top be more hyped for this,. but for every cool looking Barret or Cloud, there's nasty yucky things we're finding out >.<;
It's hard not to be disappointed now, as the more we find out, the less this seems like a remake, and the more it seems like a whole new game in a different genre, that just happens to be using FF7's story and characters.
I'm trying so hard not to be negative about this game, but it's SO.HARD!

This whole episodic approach that they're talking about makes me think that in theory this could be good staggering the development and really fleshing things out, but Square-Enix has really turned me cynical to their business practices and design philosophies over the last five years or so. As much potential for good as this decision could have, there are alarm bells ringing all over the place for me as I assume this will turn out badly on so many levels. =S

I never really expected them to go for turn based combat, that's simply too niche, so I'm not surprised enough to be disappointed in that aspect. But the cynical side of me wants to say that the only reason it's going to be released episodically is because if Squeenix tried to develop the whole game at once, it'd be another ten years till it finally came out. I kid, but it really does take them forever to develop games in this series, to the detriment of it's popularity I think, I think the 5 year period from 10 to 12 really hurt the series (yeah there was 11 in between, but being an MMO I've always seen that as a spinoff series, they very easily could have called it "Final Fantasy Online" instead of a numbered title), I mean 5 years was a really, really long wait back then, that's almost the entirety of the 6th gen in fact and by the time 12 finally came out the focus was on the release of the PS3 and I feel it probably got a bit overshadowed (though I don't know what it's exact sales numbers were) Point is, I'm assuming that splitting it up into episodes "lightens the load" enough so that they can release them in a timely manner.

I'm glad ATB isn't going to be in the remake tbh, I've definitely had my fill of it, and if I want it, I can go back to ff4-9 any time.

I'm hoping they can make this into something worth playing, but it'll probably end up an uneven, schizophrenic mess, especially if they're going with different gameplay styles for each episode or whatever they're saying.

Dem shiny helmets... first thing I thought of was that mail-in GI JOE.

I think the megajuiced PS4 graphics would work very much in the ATB system's favor. Between enemy attacks and command inputs the camera focuses in on Cloud or Tifa, just standing there, bobbing up and down, brushing their hair (every individual silken fiber is discernible) out of their crystalline eyes, occasionally stretching their scapulae, and generally being impossibly beautiful. To get the full effect, the ATB uptick would have to decrease to maybe three or four times its rate in the original.

What I want to know is if Tifa's titties are still in or not.
