There's one thing I don't get about the overall story (major spoilers for whole game) - Why are you naming Chara at the start of the game, instead of Frisk? It's a little strange to see the game start talking about how "*insert my name here*" died, and how I'm really playing some kid named Frisk, but I don't really get what the significance of that twist is. There probably isn't any significance.

It's a little strange to see the game start talking about how "*insert my name here*" died, and how I'm really playing some kid named Frisk, but I don't really get what the significance of that twist is. It just asks you to name the fallen human, not which fallen human. And I felt like this was a really weak aspect of the story since it seems kinda shoehorned in to have something to mess with your head. Really, all the serious story elements kinda fall flat.
Isn't there some lore that when Asriel and the human joined together and flew to the human's hometown that it was the human that wanted to kill everyone and not Asriel? I can't remember if that was something in the game or something I read elsewhere, but the kid being angry and evil seems kind of random. The dark laboratory section struck me as kinda misplaced, and I think the game suffers for it because to me it feels like Earthbound Syndrome where every game that takes inspiration from Earthbound has to have a mindfuck twist at the end. I would have appreciated this game to stay more focused on the humorous aspects, since that was the draw. It's hard to feel genuinely attached to one-dimensional cartoon characters to feel motivated by the serious elements. I like the characters for what they are, cartoon characters.
The mindfuck/serious elements of the game also open the doors for endless fanwank, like someone's theory I read that the original fallen human (and by extension Frisk and the rest that fell) was an abused child who was running away from home and that's why s/he wanted to murder all the people in their village. A kid fell in a hole, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that, and bringing super dark elements into the game makes it not fun, but the internet loves doing that.

Well, I sure am late to the party. I've been ignoring much of the hubbub. I suppose this would be the best thread to go for some nice spoiler free-advice? I've played through once without killing anything, and once while killing everything, and I'm not clear just how many more times I should play through this. (I wasted a lot of time trying not to do any fighting at all, let's say.) My only questions: Is there pretty much only just the one "true" ending? I was kind of expecting the Genocide ending to be much more gut-wrenching, but there's just some dialog from Sans.
How do you get through the door just to the west of Snowdin, with the four mushrooms in front of it?
I read something about an "art club". Where's that?
And just to be clear, is there an easy way to get more money?

I haven't played a Genocide run personally, but from what I've seen/heard/read, you have a final boss fight with Sans if you go the Genocide route. Also, when you did the Pacific run, who was the last boss you faced? Just curious.

I don't think you got the Genocide ending. Oh bollocks. Do you have to go to great lengths to kill absolutely everything? I might have missed a Temmie. Or is there some way to fight Dr. Alphys? Where would the fight with Sans take place? That's the one that ended with Asriel.

As I said, I haven't tried the Genocide run myself, so I don't know specifics to offer with how to successfully accomplish it. I do know that you fight Sans in the same room where he'll usually judge you, right before the end . There's probably a walkthrough somewhere online that tells exactly what you'd need to do to pull it off.

Ah, crappe, I gotta go through all that all over again. Maybe I'll just download someone's savegame. (I would have thought there'd be a comprehensive savegame editor by now.) EDIT: Skimming over this guide, I was definitely insufficiently thorough. Sounds reaaaally grindy. Maybe I'll save that for a rainy day. EDIT2: Much better spoiler-free guide at steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=574630233 . I still have some questions, if anyone would please like to chime in: How do you get through the door just to the west of Snowdin, with the four mushrooms in front of it?

And just to be clear, is there an easy way to get more money? You need to clear the minigame during the credits of the true ending without taking a single 'hit'. I'll tell you now it's probably not worth it.
The art club has a hidden boss fight that can only be accessed on October 10th, 8 PM.
Find the Temmy shop and sell whatever you don't need to it. This is the only shop in the game where selling things works. Otherwise, not really, aside from going through combat whichever way you prefer.
