This might be getting ahead, but Rash in the reboot is positively terrifying.

Yeah, realism sometimes isn't the right option.

I love these games - at the time I thought there was nothing cooler than those auto-combos, even though it was ultimately a gimmick.
I got the SNES version for my birthday and I remember the fat neighbor kid coming by and blabbing about Orchid's fatality where she showed her boobs right in front of my parents. I got the game taken away from me for a few days until I could convince my parents of how tame it was....speaking of that, the weirdest thing about the game is how there's Nintendo branding all over a game that has blood, fatalities and of course, the boob flashing.

Nintendo tried to combat and reclaim its image after Sega slammed them for being for kids and how games like their Mortal Kombat 1 were censored. Hence the "PLAY IT LOUD" era of marketing trying to one-up the 'tude and in-your-faceness of Sega's commercials.

The worst part of that era? That "Only For Nintendo" label on the edge of every box.

The worst part of that era? That "Only For Nintendo" label on the edge of every box. Could be worse. It could sell over a million.

Well Nintendo later published Eternal Darkness, an M rated horror game and Conker's Bad Fur Day, an M rated platformer. I kinda miss the "edgy" era of Nintendo to be honest. Or at the very least I miss some of the ads from that time, that N64 Super Smash Bros ad is a classic and I've always been fond of Super Mario Sunshine's tongue in cheek "let's all help Mario clean!" ad.

Nice article. Looking forward to be part about the reboot. Little mistake - this broken line appears on page 2: "Killer Instinct 2 many, many issues of the original sequel"

As much as it's (rightfully, perhaps) trashed nowadays - I have a soft spot for the Play It Loud campaign and Nintendo's mid 90's attempts at edginess. I was the right age and mindset to be swept up in it. As a kid I was all "hell yeah, Nintendo is FIGHTING BACK finally." I love all the games that came out during that era too, even the B-tier stuff like Tinstar and Uniracers.

Yeah, realism sometimes isn't the right option. Heh, eye of the beholder is a funny thing. For me, I thought he looked great, and it kind of made me wanna play the game (Mostly to play as him, I otherwise don't really have much interest in KI as series. It's not really something I'd buy an XBONE for though, so watching videos on youtube will do).

That's edgy.
