That Dreamcast game Hundred Swords?
It was hyped heavily My guess was the demise of the Dreamcast did it in.

Hundred Swords was released here on the PC by Activision. I'm pretty sure it flopped. I have it but haven't tried it.

I've been wondering that too. I think it came out for X-box though, but it would have been nice to play it on my Dreamcast.

It was relatively soon after the World Trade Center bombing and one of the major levels about halfway through the game involves the potential bombing of several major buildings in Los Angeles (many of the news report cutscenes hit pretty close to home in this regard too). The same fate was suffered by Propeller Arena though that game was canned entirely.

And yet we see C&C: RA2 released worldwide with huge sales figures...
My choice is:
Name: Tales of Phantasia System: Super Famicom Reason: The SFC was near-death, and translation would take too long.
Why the PSX remake never made it over the Pacific is beyond me.

Evil Twin for dreamcast which I think is one of the few Euro Exclusives. I'm sure it remained unreleased due to the DC being Dead

Name : Seiken Densetsu 3 System : Super Famicom Reason : Squaresoft USA wanted to make their OWN secret of game, perhaps b/c they thought they were better than Japan or something. Secret of Evermore wasn't bad, but it sure as hell was no Seiken Densetsu 3.

Fire emblem, That's one that puzzles me as the strategy genre is popular in america Are you talking about the series in general, or the NES one? The last three FE games have been released in the US. There weren't as many SRPGs being released in the US back when FE first came out on NES. Name: Pop 'n Twinbee System: Super Famicom/SNES Reason: I'm not sure. Maybe becuase of the cutesy theme. I'm not sure why Europe got it, and not the US.

Secret of Evermore wasn't bad, but it sure as hell was no Seiken Densetsu 3. If it's any consolation, a guy that claims to be the lead programmer of SoE posted some Q&A topic on Gamefaqs and mentioned the following: "Evermore did not occur instead of, and had no effect whatsoever on, any translations of Japanese titles. The decision of SCL (Square Co. Ltd of Japan, the parent company) to add a new development team to its existing Squaresoft distribution office in Redmond had no effect on any translations and did not tie up the people involved in doing them. Translations were nixed at and by the parent company for unrelated reasons of their own which I cannot discuss. Evermore also did not occur instead of any new titles in any existing series, as its team was hired specifically to create it and would not have existed otherwise." More Q&A here: www.inf.uni-konstanz.de/~kneer/androl/gf-archive-soe/052_1.htmlAgain, it's just some guy claiming he is the lead programmer, but he seems to know a lot about the behind the scenes stuff so I don't see why it couldn't possibly be legit.

Game: Moon (also known as "Moon: Remix RPG Adventure") Platform: PlayStation Reason: Unknown. Probably too obscure, as it was developed by newbie developer Love-de-Lic, and published by ASCII. May have been too "weird" for any companies to want to take a chance on, too. But damn if it's not one of the best games I've ever played!
Game: Coloball 2002 Platform: PlayStation 2 Reason: Obscure (developed by Vanpool and published by Enterbrain), not entirely intuitive (you actually have to take the time to learn how to play), and got bad reviews in Japan despite being the BEST PS2 GAME *EVER*. (:
Games: PopoloCrois Monogatari, PopoRogue, and PopoloCrois Monogatari II Platform: PlayStation Reason: PopoloCrois Monogatari was the first RPG ever released on the PS1, and back then, the RPG genre was still just catching on over here, and only big-name titles like Final Fantasy proved profitable within it. So legend has it Sony of America wanted to release ONLY ONE RPG... and they chose Beyond the Beyond, because it was *THREE-D*! And since Popolo1 never got released here, and the subsequent PopoloCrois games were direct sequels, the whole series was basically cursed to never see an English-language release. Until they half-assedly ported highly-edited versions of Popolo 1 and 2 to the PSP, anyway!
Those are my big ones. (:

Game: Rakugaki Showtime Platform: Playstation Reason: A large amount of hallucinogenic drugs involved in the development process? I don't know. Katamari Damacy seems to have done the same, and it was released outside of the Land of the Rising Sun, too. Seems that the West has only recently gained a similar affinity for the Weird Stuff. It's a fun, genre-mixing game, with a unique art style, in true Treasure style. Game: Panekit Platform: Playstation Reason: An abstract vehicle building/physics simulation game. Niche game for sure, but if it had the 'LEGO' brand slammed on it, it might've been less obscure. Found a fansite of it recently, complete with custom-made vehicles and everything. Apparently the same guy is also trying to recreate the game under Windows. A real great game, for those interested in such stuff. Or, at the very least, I don't really know a better alternative.

interesting Kyouki I never knew that. Frankly, I was going off info from the late 90's from some fan website, I just assumed it was true (hey it was the late 90's internets after all)
