I played through Catherine for the first time a few months ago. I've never played a Persona game, so I can't compare it to those games. On its own terms, I liked its block-puzzle gameplay quite a bit, but oh my gosh I fucking hate the story and characters so much. Practically everyone in the cast was immensely unlikeable, and fuck everything about Erica's story arc. Her entire purpose is just to exist as part of one overextended unfunny trans-"deception" joke. Fuck that shit.

I never finished the game (fucking ice zone is impossible) so I never got the Erica reveal, but the rest of the story was.. I don't know. Definitely not well wrought, but interesting enough. You're right about everyone involved being pretty shit people.

The trick to Quadrangle/ice zone is to drop to the side and shimmy along, it prevents you from sliding.

Catherine impressed me at first, but by the time I finished the game on easy (which still makes it the hardest game I've ever beaten on easy), I realized I didn't enjoy it very much. It's because I never felt very confident while playing the game, which I didn't appreciate. I never figured out how to unlock the other guys' sidequests.
