You're really going to keep beating that dead horse, aren't you. That wasn't my intent at all, actually. The post was just to clarify the situation with Roguelikes; I am helping to run this behind the scenes too, you know. The 'this year' requirement was mentioned to contrast the two cases. In the case of FTL, any play should count EVEN if you unlocked the ship you used on a previous year. The effect the ship choice has on the overall viability of a run is minor enough that it shouldn't matter. Many people keep the same install of roguelikes for years at a time; it's useful to know when you need to erase your history or not. Invisible Inc. is another example of this sort of game. The more times you finish it, the more choices of agents you can select to start with. But the individual agents don't give you much of an advantage so much as a different starting style. A passive-aggressive mention of the year requirement on its would have been a bit pointless and wouldn't have accomplished anything.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon (GBA)
Took about 3-4 hours to leisurely clear at about 93% map completion (I didn't bother with the optional monster gauntlet and I'm sure I missed a few secret rooms). I ended the game with three of the bottom cards and four of the top cards. There's a lot to like about Circle of the Moon, but having all of your item and spell access rely on pure dumb luck was a stupid, stupid design decision. Also the locations of the teleport rooms are a bit crap.

Don't think I've ever beaten that boss rush hall or whatever it is. People complained that Symphony was too easy...

Just beat right now Bot Vice (PC/Steam), a nice cover-based single screen third-person shooter, in the vein of games like Wild Guns or Blood Bros, but with the perspective seen from above. I'll play through the optional challenges later. The creators of the game however have this mindset I always hated: since the game is retro-inspired it has to be monstrously difficult and unforgiving. They added an Easy difficulty after lots of people complained that it was way too hard, and it still isn't an easy challenge (especially the final boss). In their intention every level could be completed without energy refills, which is pretty much impossible for an average player like me and many others. Attachments:

Virus: It is Aware (PS1) A solid contender for both "Awful names in videogames" and "Worst Video Games" thread. Pretty terrible on all counts, no excuses.

Yakuza 4 - PS3
Credit rolled the game, had a good time with it. Would love it if Shun Akiyama had a spin off game. I'll probably go back in a bit to the free roam version of the game and complete all of his side quests. I guess i'll pick up 5 once I'm finished with 4 completely. Hopefully it gets a price drop or goes on sale in the future, I have a hard time justifying paying full price on digital only titles. Anyone know if the Japanese disc has region patching?

Yodanji (Switch)
Such a brutal rogue-like despite the cute yokai illustrations. The dungeon is 10 smallish levels, and you have to bring 3 scrolls down to the bottom level and defeat the boss upon which you unlock a new yokai. What makes it difficult is your low inventory space and high food needs. There's also very little equipment. It comes in the form of charms, and the absolute most important one is the one that halves your food needs. It makes everything much more manageable since you don't need to lug food around and can just eat it when you find it. You can only carry 5 items total with equipment and scrolls using that up too so every extra space helps.
All I have for a time is between 5 to 10 hours. HLTB has no entry and the Switch and PC versions both have lone reports of 8 hours on GameFAQs so I'll go with that.
Edit: I mean total time to finish once. The actual run was maybe 15 minutes.
Total: 6 Letters: -DC-K-O-Y- Time: 24.5h + 0:45:30

Cave Story+ (Switch) Played Curly Story for the first time. Curly speaking managed to surprise me every time!
Not exactly sure what my time was. I spend over 10 hours when I played this last year and rolled over to 20+ this time. HLTB has 6.5h and GameFAQs has 13.3h so I'm going to call this 10h.

Demon's Souls (PS3)
Wanted to beat the game once more before the servers shut down and online mode disappears. Once Monster Hunter World releases next week that game is going to consume my life, so I wanted to make sure I cleared this game while there was still time. I feel like Demon's Souls isn't nearly as appreciated as it should be relative to the other Souls games... it stands right alongside Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne in quality.
I built my character entirely around using the Dragon Bone Smasher, because giant two handed weapons are my standard mode of attack in every Souls game, and the Dragon Bone Smasher is my favorite weapon in the whole series.
EDIT: And also, only SOME of the game was completed in online mode, because the servers are garbage right now and I was having shitloads of trouble connecting at all.
