Surprised you didn't cover the Steam port, though it's based off of the DOS version.

The Genesis game seems to get more love, but the fact that Aladdin has a sword will always be offputting. Aladdin is literally the first movie I ever saw in a theatre, and the SNES version feels much truer to it.
Although, Aladdin has a sword in the cover art. So, I wonder how many people got the SNES game and were disappointed when it turns out he doesn't have one.

As kid ive played bootleg version of SNES played on Pegasus(polish pirate pamicon clone) bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Aladdin_(Hummer_Team)Its fun but second half of game are tricky, If you not grab towel(Parachute) some jumps are deadly leap of faith BTW that bootleg had nice glitch to defeat Jafar very fast How? Just die. Im not kidding! all you do taking damage to keep one left energy heart. When Jafar drop own snake staff just stand on her path and allow to be hit When ligthing bolt from snake staff gonna be above Alladin head you gonna be ressurected and game treats you as if you defeated Jafar www.youtube.com/watch?v=PI4VAlpF7JISeen here on my outdated YouTube channell.

Aladdin is literally the first movie I ever saw in a theatre What a coincidence, it was mine too! I had the misfortune to play the NES adaptation of Aladdin, made when the NES was almost dead. It was one of the most broken, buggiest, most ugly-looking and borderline unplayable games I've ever seen.

To me gameplay and tight controls always win over graphics, so SNES Aladdin is the better game. It has great music too. I'm going to make a huge generalization here, but whoever wrote the SNES version's article maybe played it for the article and not "for fun" back when it came out? Because the (original) music is far from bland. It has catchy and charming melodies that you can hum and whistle to. The Cave, The Pyramid level, and Jaffar's palace are outstanding tracks. And that song that plays when you rescue Jasmine at the end of level 1 is incredibly beautiful. I don't know what that instrument used there is when the music kicks up, but I love it. The original music is not at the level of the Megaman X or Street Fighter 2 music (of course), but still pretty awesome. No offense intended with this comment.

I don't know what that instrument used there is when the music kicks up, but I love it Sounds like a fretless bass, obviously as interpreted by the SNES's soundchip.

I didn't write the article, but those tracks vary between generic and awful. Even the Jasmine track is just decent. I think "bland" was being nice. And the main argument in favor of the Genesis game is its uniqueness, while the SNES game is a more typical platformer, even if it's a good one.

I think "bland" was being nice. 100% wrong about the music But hey, to each their own. I've played 3 different versions of Ys 1 & 2 and I don't remember a single track, but Falcom fans swear on that soundtrack. Repetition also helps falling in love with a track. I initially didn't like Castlevania Curse of Darkness and Order of Ecclesia's soundtrack, but then after playing the games multiple times I learned to like it a lot. The music isn't better than their previous titles, but they weren't boring as I initially thought of them. There's music that grabs you right away, and there are others that take a few listening sessions before they grow on you. As for Ys 1 & 2, I first played the TGCD versions, and then the Famicom and MSX versions. I plan on buying the TG16 version on the Wii before it gets delisted and hopefully the music will grow on me then.

Maybe not that exact age, but close enough. For the record, the music isn't bad, I never said that. I even have tracks I'd say I like. even if the whole OST is, much like the rest of the game, pretty standard Capcom fare. I'd just say that the Genesis OST has more charm to it, one of the few points I'd personally prefer over the SNES version. It helps they use more music from the film in the Virgin version.

I don't think the snes compositions hold up to the offical ones or the best original MD ver. tracks, but overall it has the advantage in sound design. MD Aladdin tends to sound like the average midi to fm interpretation in old PC games and there are no samples or psg used IIRC. The mod tracks on PC/AMI are sometimes better though, for example the cave escape sequence music. www.youtube.com/watch?v=joSSOJe-tow
