PS4 would get overlap, but there is plenty reasons to play both PSP and PS1 versions of SotN. Namely in the localization. Issue is, they charge that much just for Rondo and SotN. They clearly want some entries to retain some value/demand.
Rondo Dracula X SNES SotN PS1 Chronicles PS1 Legends GB
Then I draw a blank. Surely it can mean N64 and maybe PS2. There's 6 games between GBA and DS I just know people will complain if one or more is left out. Could be a volume 3 of its own!

Kinda weird the Contra collection has only 7 games, as opposed to the other collections' 8. Still looking forward to it.
I also really don't see the point in releasing the PAL versions of the games. There's going to be some poor shmucks who grew up with those versions who will play them not knowing they're inferior. Unless they're changed to run like the NTSC versions (but I highly doubt they went through that trouble), they're not worth playing.
They also better add the international versions to the arcade collection at some point. It would be a shame if Castlevania and Contra got that treatment but the collection that needs it the most didn't.

My guess is that maybe Konami will translate the Famicom version (as they did Kid Dracula on the Castlevania Collection) and for that effort count it as the eighth game. (translation amounting to the opening title sequence, and then a few one one-screen animations, I recall)

Ooh, a localization of the Famicom-only story sequences would be pretty cool to see Anyways, I like that the PAL versions of some games will be included. Functionally it doesn't really matter, but I'm really curious to see what Probotector was like firsthand :3

I actually quite like the Patlabor-esque robot style of Probotector. The only real issue was the 50Hz making gameplay sluggish.

I always thought of the redesigns as versions of Appleseed's Briareos. But Patlabor works, too - if not better in some instances. And I certainly prefer the robotic versions over the generic Rambo-dudes.

I always call them patlabor inspired as I saw the movies way before I saw appleseed.

And I certainly prefer the robotic versions over the generic Rambo-dudes. Think they share the same mechanical designer. I always call them patlabor inspired as I saw the movies way before I saw appleseed. For me it's the other way round. Back then I've only seen the second Patlabor movie (which was had beautiful animation, iirc). At the time I was slightly more familiar with Appleseed, having read a some of the manga issues and having seen the first movie (from 1988, which at times had a hilariously bad english dub). Looking at the boxarts now, which I also tend to prefer over the US/Japanese versions, I do see some Patlabor, but back then it just didn't occur to me, especially since the Patlabor mechs are supposed to be much bigger than the human-sized characters in Probotector. Btw: Another example for Konami drawing inspiration from Appleseed can be found in Axelay's mechanical spider boss. I couldn't find a connection of shared artists (Shirow seemingly did all the work himself on Appleseed), but it could be that Patlabor was influenced by Appleseed, as it came out a bit later. Though Appleseed's designs weren't created in a vacuum either, so who really knows?
I prefer the Rambo-looking human characters over the robot designs, but I still think it's pretty cool to have some Probotector stuff included :3 The only thing that bothered me about the robots was that they would die from a single hit, even though they looked heavily armored. In that regard the human design makes more sense.

What about Contra Rebirth I really liked that game. I mean, my Wii isn't going anywhere, but that's not an option for a lot of people, especially with the death of Wiiware.

I got the Contra Anniversary Collection for Switch just an hour or so ago, since it came out today after the Nintendo Direct. It seems pretty cool so far; I tried 50hz and 60hz modes in Super Probotector: Alien Rebels; the fact M2 went as far as adding a 60hz mode is really sweet. Gameplay-wise (at least based on the first stage) it plays fine... but the intro is kinda screwy. Part 1 - Part 2 (the Switch only allows up to 30-second long clips from what I can tell) - The music is like... hilariously out of time with the visuals & sound effects. Though it is interesting that I finally get to hear what the end of the intro music sounds like (usually the explosions drown it out, lol). EDIT: Here's some clips I recorded of the first boss fight in each version. Contra III first boss (North American version; 60hz) - Super Probotector first boss (PAL 50hz) - Super Probotector first boss (PAL 60hz - "Turbo" mode, created specifically by M2 for the Anniversary Collection. This is the version from which the messed-up intro is from) -

So it seems that they decided to patch in the Japanese versions in the arcade collection as well. That's pretty good news since that collection needed it the most. Also, there's button remapping for all of the collections now.

This is awesome I don't have the arcade collection, but reportedly the US ROMs are wayyyy too difficult, so it's really nice that the (relatively) more fair JPN ROMs will be readily available to play now. I also really like that we can remap buttons and the like now. Thank you M2! And... I don't say this every day, but thank you Konami. lol
