I was expecting the PC Engine version of ToD to be a cut & paste from the Arcade version but it looks REALLY good.
You can increase your stats at the end of each level (speed, energy, sword, etc) and you even have an items screen.
I'm going to try beating it to see if there's anything else different from the Arcade one.
*Update* Level 6 now, the treasures seem to be the same so far, but the conditions to get them are different in some stages. There are different enemies on some levels too.
*Update 2* Uh oh, I got a shield where I was supposed to get the Candle. I guess some treasure locations are different indeed. I hope I don't get stuck further on.

I don't know what the "neghiharau" or "negi wa rau" part means, but the gist of this, I think is "You can now shoot (??) flames with your sword."

I've also read in the 1Up article that the PC-Engine version is "the best version" cause of all the improvements and I'm tempted to try it.
My problem with Druaga is the whole hidden treasure chest thing. Of course it adds some diversion to the game, but the whole process of finding these treasure chests is a pain in the arse imo. Nearly all those requirements you have to fullfill are nonsencical and/or can only be uncovererd through pure guesswork or luck, without clues. That alone wouldn't be soo bad, but many of those items are absolutely crucial for advancement. It's not just that it gets harder if you're missing out chests, if you miss out certain items you won't be able to finish the game at all, no matter how good you perform afterwards. There's a floor on the Game Boy version, where you have to Pause the game oO The random placement of objects doesn't contribute to this either. I've encountered a layout where I could not reach the treasure, cause the only way was blocked by the entrance to the next floor and I'd already collected the key. If you haven't picked up a pickaxe by now (or the one you picked up is broken), you're screwed.
Apart from that things, I did find the Game Boy version quite enjoyable, mainly cause of the save function and the dumped down difficulty, which relativates some of the rougher spots in the game. I also kind of like the PS2 version, albeit it has nothing to do with the old games, besides the licence. It's more of a roguelike, though way more simplicistic and with more reliance on level-grinding.

I don't know what the "neghiharau" or "negi wa rau" part means, but the gist of this, I think is "You can now shoot (??) flames with your sword." Weird, I can do no such thing. I didn't find the treasure chest and when I reached level 20 the room was all dark. So that's as far as I'll go unless I find out how to get the missing treasures. I heard the Namcom Museum 3 has a booklet with the solutions to find all the treasures. But I guess it's for the Arcade version and not the PCE one :/ I'm stuck and Magic Engine doesn't allow cheats!

Furoa 18 (Floor 18)
"Anata No Ken Wa Honoo Wo Nagiharau Koto Mo Dekimasu."
You can use your sword to mow down the flames concealing objects (?).
Something of that nature. For some reason, I can't remember what the hell "Dekimasu" means. I'm a bit rusty, but I've heard that word several times before.

"Dekimasu" - can do
verb + "Koto ga dekimasu" - can (verb)
For instance, "taberu koto ga dekimasu" - can eat

"mow down the flames concealing objects "
That's strange. There are no flames in the room. Only candles in the walls and I already swinged my sword on all of them.
I think I'm going to restart the game and make a faq with all the solutions. Let's see if I can find all those treasures over again.

I kind of thought Dekimasu meant "can", so I put "can use". Ah well.
Since the closest I've got to a Druaga game is the PS2 game (Fushigi No Dungeon: Nightmare of Druaga) and the Namco Museum one, I'm not sure how the majority of them play. Let me ask you this rey; Are the candles lit? If not, are there any monsters that have fire properties or breath fire? If so, you may need to "borrow" their fire or your sword has the property to hit/absorb fire at this point.

Yes the candles are lit and I don't think I can absorb fire :S But I'll deal with that later.
I restarted the game, and I'm making the FAQ and I mananged to modify passwords into giving me 99 ability points. So I won't have any problems when it comes to energy or power.
If I get stuck I'll post the clue here to see if you guys can help. I also have passwords (fully powered up) if anyone wishes to give a level a go.

*scratches* Don't suppose that "fire" thing would have anything to do with Quox, would it?

Quox? That's a dragon right? I haven't seen any yet, but I wasn't that far along either. So no, it can't be Quox. There are a lot of new enemies in this version too.
I'm now on level 15 and I haven't missed a treasure (last time I missed 2).
I also have screenshots with the collected item and the password if anyone wants them, the game nicely shows you both when you finish a level.
*Update* Gah.... some levels have TWO treasures. As if finding out how to get one of them wasn't hard enough.

You should take a look at this FAQ, it lists all the treasures in the arcade version. I don't have a clue if some of these requirements are the same in the PC Engine version, but at least you could try it, if you're stuck. It also says, that to light up the floors number 20-23 you need an item called "the book of light" which you can get on the 19th floor just by opening the exit (seems like it's more difficult to obtain in the PC Engine version, cause otherwise you wouldn't have missed it). Two treasure chests? Wow, that's really new oO maybe all of the floors have a second treasure?

For instance, "taberu koto ga dekimasu" - can eat all of that just to say 'can eat'?

The PC Engine version is completely different. Every treasure requirement has been changed and 95% of the treasures aren't found on the same levels or at all. Sadly most people think the PCE version is just the same as the arcade one, only with better graphics. Otherwise there would be dedicated FAQs for it. Even on wikipedia the information was only for the Arcade version with the PCE version being just a port with better graphics.... but I fixed that already. I found how to get the treasure in the level of the clue I posted. "You can use your sword to mow down the flames concealing objects (?). " I thought it had something to do with the candles, but it actually had to do with a fire throwing mage. One he throws his fire you have to wait until it hits the ground, then you stand next to it, hit it with your sword and touch it. Now I'm stuck getting the second treasure in the 19th level, here's the clue:
