Nice, nice article.
One of my favorite games. This is truly a unique game that could not be made anywhere else in the world. It's a shame they didn't make a good 2D game for GBA, they had the chance to...
It was the FIRST time I wished I had a Sega Genesis instead of a Mega Drive, and the first American non-PC game that really got my attention.
They were selling an arranged soundtrack for both EWJ 1 and 2 at the GDC this year.

Awesome work, Kurt.
The Legacy title is repeated in the last page.
Also, since you mentioned MDK, shouldn't you mention the hidden area in the first game where you pick up EWJ head icons to drop cows on your enemies?

Monkey Dolphin Kaiser!
... erm... are there any existing pics of a monkey-dolphin hybrid in a pickelhaube? I'll make one eventually if not.

You didn't seem to mention the top-secret Manta Shield in the EWJ2 article. Here's how it's performed in the versions I've played.
Genesis: Up, then hold A and B
SNES: Hold X, press up
GBA: Press "L" (not so secret)
PS1: Hold all four shoulder buttons and press triangle (I think - no way of testing right now).
Also, as an addendum - there's a secret Andy Asteroids bonus level hidden in "Down the Tubes" on the excellent PC Windows version of EWJ1. Try to find it, it's extremely well-hidden - I only found it as a kid because it was one of the few games I had so I absolutely played the arse off it. Also, did you mention "Who Turned Out the Lights/Fumbling in the Dark", the hidden level accessed from "Level 5"?

Other stuff!
In the M2G section: [/b] generic platformer,[/quote]
Stunningly, perhaps?
I'd recommend relocating the last sentence to an earlier point in the paragraph.

A fine article indeed. So this is where the article's typos went. I wasn't aware of the connection to Cool Spot/Global Gladiators/Aladdin. Actually, I always had the impression that Pitfall: A Mayan Adventure was the direct predecessor to EWJ. At least, the PC version has the same "Fat Man" stick figure code (I think). I bought the Windows 95 special edition of this game years ago and never checked it out, unfortunately. So what exactly was The Whole Can O'Worms? Was it just EWJ 1 & 2? And when was it released?

Yeah, Pitfall is a bit similar in style but was technically done by a different team. The Windows 95 versions were both ported by the same staff though, I think.
The Whole Can O' Worms is EWJ 1 & 2, but for DOS instead of Windows. I'm not sure of the exact release, but it was after the Win 95 version.

Really minor point but the great quiz in the Villi People level of EJ2 seem to get cut out of the Japanese versions. I have the Japanese Saturn version and the quiz part of the level simply isn't there -when you reach the section, you simply drop down to that bonus game with the bumpers. Strangely the worms you can collect in that level are still there -I haven't tried it for a while but I think you just get given some powerups just before you reach the bumper bonus game.
I guess it must have been too much trouble to translate all of the questions and answers into Japanese.

Which is really sad because dada humor seems pretty popular over there...

Just wanna mention that you could say that Interplay have actually acquired the rights to EWJ off Shiny, after the lawsuit problem. Doug TenNapel has also announced a while back, on his site, that he is currently working on a cartoon series, a movie and a new game all for Jim! In other words, a massive comeback for Jim is on its way! Add it to your article. interplay.com/about/article.php?id=23

Most of us knew that already, but I think the author took it as common knowledge and didn't bother. Petition to include this little piece of awesome news in the article!

Knock knock. I just read there was a special version of Earthworm Jim made for the Sega Channel. Is this correct? It was on wikipedia, so who knows...
