The game did have some pretty bon-diggity backgrounds though.

Star Control 1 and 2 were certantly not bad, and I like Waxworks. They also made Slave Zero, one of the most underrated mecha game of all time (right after the Heavy Gear games and Tech Romancer).

Tech Romancer was made by Capcom. I dunno about Slave Zero but I don't think it was Accolade.
But outside of publishing/porting Star Control, I can't think much that Accolade did that was good. I mean, they are kind of important for the fights they did against Sega and the licensing of cartridges, but other than that?

Though they only published it, Zero Tolerance for the Sega Genesis was a rather good FPS.
Interesting note: Accolode didn't develop Bubsy 3D. That goes to Eidetic who went on to make the Syphon Filter series and have been pretty much taken over by Sony.

Interesting, I think I'll note that. I'm not a far of Syphon Filter although they are definitely much better games than Bubsy 3D.

Well, acording to mobygames, Slave Zero was developed by Accolade and published by Interplay, making it one of their last games (Redline being their swan song). Bubsy is nowhere as bad as the Chester Cheetah games, I'd rather spend a whole weekend with Bubsy 3d than those sacks of shite. And someone needs to do an article on the Cool Spot games...

That doesn't sound right at all. According to 3D Gamers, it was published by Infogrames (presumably right before they turned into Atari). Though 3D Gamers says it was made by Accolade...and Wikipedia is entirely devoid of any knowledge of the game.

Ahhh, Chester Cheetah, the bastard! I hated his lousy game- 'too cool to fool' indeed! :\ As for Cool Spot, I how I hated that game, I seem to remember it getting rave reviews at the time mainly due to its graphics, its a total Donkey Kong Country of a game... Finally, how could we forget Zool and his shameless Chupa-Chup pimping- and worse still, his craptacular game? The early to mid 90's have a lot to answer for...

I've only played the first Bubsy and I think that every aspect of it is dire;saying "Bubsy is unplayable" is a huge understatement.Anyway, great article as usual.

I am glad the article pointed out the hilarious foreshadowing of the statement "What could possibly go wrong?"

Man, those screen shots of Bubsy 3D freak me out so much and bring back bad memories. You see, Bubsy 3D literally traumatized me. o_O I've only played it on one of those PlayStation demos and I hadn't played it for long, but I found the whole experience so disturbing that it truly put me into a depression for a couple days. When I closed my eyes or went to sleep, I saw Bubsy 3D in my mind. I felt like *I* was actually inside that demented, Satanic world.
I've always found games very immersive, so while I play games, I really feel like I'm in the character's shoes. This is especially true of 3D games (even more so with first-person games; this is largely why I don't tend to play them. Jurassic Park on SNES used to scare the crap out of me. I also don't play survival horror games for this reason, but I can watch someone else play them just fine.) Early 3D games can freak me out because the lack of detail can make them feel too surreal or empty. I really can't tolerate early flight games and underwater games especially (unfortunately, Wonder Project J2, one of my favorite games, has mini-games with both a plane and a submarine). So... feeling immersed in Bubsy 3D is a REALLY bad feeling. O_o
