Is that really entirely on your shoulders, though? I can only speak for myself (and one or two of the people I've collaborated with), but I have NEVER sent in an article with a typo or spelling mistake. I don't know what he does to them, but somehow the mistakes get added in during the editing process. Not to get on your case about it or anything, Disco. I've personally never minded typos or spelling mistakes myself.

Can we PLEASE stop going off-topic with all this complaining about the typos?
I think some good civil points were brought up for and against this article, but it's not an excuse to derail the topic into discussing what does and does not belong on the site.

You know, I've spent an average of 20 hours a week for the past five years working on this site. Cut me some slack if it's not 100% perfectly copy edited. I'll cut you all the slack you want. But don't you think people that sent their stuff in should run it through a spell checker? Or your other 5 editors should take a look at it before green-lighting it?

I ran mine through a spell checker, I believe.
It really isn't hard.
Cut, paste, run spell check, look it over, send it in.
Alternatively, before the last step you can get another person to read it, preferably someone who doesn't know much about video games.

Stuff that's submitted usually gets edited. Any of the ones that have typo issues are usually the ones I write because the type of errors I tend to make are the nasty ones that aren't picked up by spellcheckers, and are so in tuned with my thought processes I tend to miss them. Most of the stuff that's posted here is during the editing phase.

To be frank. I enjoy Bloodstorm (how many other fighting games let you limit your opponents moveset through dismemberment) and I hate to think that the only impression people will get from this article is "lulz derivative crap".
Hence I humbly ask that the article is not just a love/hate time capsule and at least covers the games resonably. They're games and they deserve at least that.
Unrelated - Gunheart that Leaf thread confuses me still.

I think the whole debate that has gone on in this thread has largely been about the fact that not everyone seems to agree on what "covers the games reasonably" should mean.

Kal's "time capsule" statement describes this article pretty well. While it makes for a good read to some, there's no denying it feels misplaced compared to the rest of the material on this site. Most pieces here could stand the test of time. They're as relevant now as they'll ever be. That can't be said for the Time Killers article. I feel it has other strengths and purposes.
Just throwin' this idea out, but does anyone think this article is unique enough to add another section? Like, a humor category similar to the cranky gamer and "other" articles? Not because it's not up to snuff, but because it's so different. (Sorry if this has already been talked about, I haven't read the previous pages of this thread.)

If the Final Fantasy articles (which at times are even more off topic) can stay in the main section then so can this.

As I said, the spelling mistakes somehow get added in during the editing process. I am completely baffled about how this might happen. It makes no sense. Is someone dictating the articles over the phone during the editing process? It seems much more likely that there are errors that are overlooked until after the articles are sent in.

I'm tellin' ya man, I spell check and re-spell check and proof read and re-proof read everything before I send it in, and yet there end up being typos that were NOT in the original text. As I've already said twice now, they get added in during the editing process (that's not to say that no contributing author has ever made a typo, but I promise you that most of them get added in later).
Keep in mind that I really don't mean to give Disco a hard time about this - it honestly doesn't bother me at all. I'm just trying to explain this for the posters who have assumed that we don't spell check/proof read our stuff.

Spellchecking isn't much of a problem on the site from what I've seen. I think HG101's contributors are competent enough writers to not misspell stuff that much, and most word processing programs instantly notify you of a mistake (or even correct them automatically). It's things like repeated words, dropped words, wrong tenses, and grammar mistakes that show up far more often and you generally can't avoid them short of going over a piece with a fine-toothed comb.
