Ha ha. that's pretty neat that you finished the first game completely so many times.
I completed the first GBC game 100%, but only once. Man, the physics were a pain and it was bizarre how the levels put more effort in trying to replicate the 3d levels from the console game in 2d more than how they actually played in 2d leading to a lot of running jumps that you had to do perfectly since there was no room on the platforms to build up enough speed to make the next jump if you stopped.
(I also managed to 100% complete the aformentioned EWJ:M2tG which was terrible and unfunny yet strangely compelling to me for some reason. man it's a wonder I managed to find any good games on the GBC when I look back on it <_>).

Alright - I am now in possession of the Gex novel, written by Michael Teitelbaum (who also apparently wrote another book based on Donkey Kong Country). It was published in 1999 by a company called Troll (this is probably a bad omen) and is apparently based on Gex 3. Perhaps mercifully, it's only 80 pages long and large-print, so it won't take me long to make my way through it.
I hope to amend the article page with a blurb on it. I'll be reading through it tonight. I doubt it'll take me longer. =P

There's a Gex novel? Of all franchises, Gex had to get his own book? I wouldn't want to be in your shoes now. ^^

I don't know why I didn't post this sooner, but here are pics of Gex's Planet X and some weird shit that happens in one of the stages where a human shadow vomits and starts bleeding (I think it's because I hit him). Check the bottom pics for that. I don't know if that's supposed to happen there or if it's a random easter egg. All I know that stage was a huge warp labyrinth and I just happened to come across a dead end when that happened. www.vgmuseum.com/images/saturn/01/gex.htmlAlso, here are pics of the special ending, which I doubt anyone had the balls to do. I have four balls apparently, because I did this on both 3DO and Saturn. And I don't even like Gex. None of them. Anyway, typical of European endings, the special one is filled with jokes. (I also Shred Pixels apparently). But most importantly, it has TONS of development stuff such as artwork, a different intro, storyboards, sketches, notes and more. www.vgmuseum.com/end/3do/a/gexsp.htmYeah I remember that dude. The 3DO guidebook joked that it might've been Dana Gould but otherwise we're just as clueless. Probably some random dev member. Maybe it's time to use your talent for tracking down the developer and ask them about in emails. I got the special ending on the PS1 version, and I have the balls to prove it (or at least the password I scribbled down on a notebook many years ago ). The artwork and the storyboards were definitely there.

That's easy, go to linkedin and type Lyle Hall on the search bar. The one with "President & CEO of Heavy Iron Studios" is your guy

What do you have to do to get that supposedly elusive special ending? Is it such a difficult task?

You have to get the remote control on every single level. And like most western games of the era, the levels are huge, with lots of hidden rooms and without a direct way to the exit.
You have to love the game a lot, or hate yourself big time, to be able to find all the remotes.

You also have to find the bonus level in every zone and beat it with a perfect score, which gets you a piece of the remote that gets you into Planet X. Then you have to beat Planet X. Once you do that, beat the final boss again and you'll get the extra stuff.

whatever happened to a blurb about the novel? there's almost something sinister about how you say you'll be reading it "tonight" and then never say another word about it anyway, say what you will about the first two, but Gex 3 is in my opinion one of the most underrated games for the PS1 ever made, I loved that game and still do as a matter of fact, as an adult it's fun to pickup on references Gex makes (such as a Morrissey reference) that flew right over my head as a kid while I of course wish that Crystal Dynamics had made a 4th Gex on the PS2, at least the series ended on a high note instead of going on to embarrass itself like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro did

Many, many reasons.

I mean, it's only 80 pages right? I could read that on the toilet
failing that, maybe you could.....scan it? I doubt anyone would care enough about the Gex book to cry copyright infringement and it would preserve this gaming oddity for future gamer generations
