Think of it as a sort of resource-management puzzle- you've got a certain set of quests you can do, which will yield specific characters and items, and your goal is to plot a course through them which will give you the most powerful possible party in the endgame. - HC That is the most accurate description of anything, ever. It has single-handedly revived my interest in the series.

Sweet! Re-playing the classic (in a more awesome version) will hopefully get me pumped enough to get on whith SaGa Frontier.
Lovely series. I hold RS3 as one of the greatest JRPGs of all time.

It's less an interview as much as it is a conversation between the two on their influences and style. That was a really enjoyable interview, with all the insight into their process. It's always fun to hear artists geek out on things such as Saint Seiya! But I didn't realize so many artists really take inspiration from fashion design. Takeshi Obata, Hirohiko Araki, Naoko Takeuchi, etc. I really do enjoy Tomomi Kobayashi's style. Elegant characters, elegant lines, with a color sense that gives a similar mood as Yoshitaka Amano, albeit, a bit warmer feeling.

Some interesting things about Unlimited:
It is referred to as a "SaGa" game all over other material, supporting the point that "Saga" was chosen to signify a different kind of game. Really odd how that was all set up.
The "Unlimited" name was chosen because the game originally had setting ties to Final Fantasy: Unlimited. This probably has something to do with why the katakana title has a : in it; FF:U does as well.
The sheer amount of negativity directed at this game is almost exclusively a Western phenomenon. In Japan, the game was initially praised, but ended up getting a completely different kind of bad reputation due to the half-finished manual, which was appended through later documentation. The vast majority of complaints about this game revolved around the state of the documentation.
It is something of a successor to the WonderSwan game Wild Card, also by Kawazu, and apparently Unlimited was itself originally a portable game early in development. Probably another WonderSwan title, as Square didn't start GBA development for another year. Funny enough, recently Kawazu seemed to compared Unlimited to the kind of RNG-heavy games you expect to see on smartphones today.
Not so interesting is the last paragraph. I wish I could understand why people insist on sticking to the status quo like this. Unlimited Saga must be a terrible game, people say, and anyone who likes it does so as a guilty pleasure. What if that isn't true, and it's all just a big lie created and perpetuated by inconsiderate people?
