There's a Castlevania homebrew beat'em'up on the DC, running on some freeware engine.

I think original Doshin games would be nice for a merged article.
But if they derrive from an obvious title (like the Azumanga-Diao [sp?] Ikaruga clone), then they're just footnote fodder.

Kenta Cho & Cave Story = We've all heard about it, 100 times. At least I can't seem to avoid finding at least one post a week in about every gaming forum I visit about either of them.
There are, believe it or not, lots of more interesting freeware games that deserves more attention than they get, which is not what I can say for the above mentioned games.

He's just saying that generalising freeware games as them is kinda like saying that Half Life is the only FPS ever. There's heaps of other freeware games, I mean literally hundreds that are actaully worth playing so you shouldn't base your opinion of the genre type on just Kenta Cho & Cave Story.

While we are talking recommendations, how about any run 'n' gun games? I have only found Streambolt, which is excellent. Here is a shot dodging practice game, where your points are aquired relative to how long you last, called YSG2000: Barrage Simulator of Hibachi. www.geocities.jp/abashi99/Here is a shmup, by that guy who was responsible for YSG2000: Barrage Simulator of Hibachi, called Yalkinashoot. www.geocities.jp/abashi99/a2_game.htm
