There's no real explanation in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, but in Metal Gear Solid I assume that it had to do with the fact that it would be hard to let Solid Snake carry anything of use to him while swimming through to the loading docks. Either way though, it really is just a gameplay thing I know... but with all of the overwrought explanations and retcons I'd have expected them to explain that as well...

A lot of the games after Metal Gear Solid tend to kind of gloss over the events of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (with the exception of the core elements of Solid Snake defeating Big Boss). Probably because most people didn't play those games, but it still feels odd to me how in games that chronologically take place later, Solid Snake often gets referred to as a hero of Shadow Moses specifically, while his accomplishments in Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land often go unmentioned.

Well, to be fair, the events of MG1 and 2 were not well publicized in-universe, either. In MGS2, it's revealed that Nastasha wrote a tell-all exposé about the events of the first game (a fact that got her into a lot of trouble, explaining why she was absent for the rest of the series). MGS2's tanker incident was a public relations nightmare because it took place in the middle of New York's Hudson River, making it impossible for the general public to ignore. Even the Big Shell incident would have been huge news, because of its cover identity as an oil spill cleanup facility. The rest of the series takes place outside of the First World, making it what Far Cry 2 would have referred to as "just another dirty little war."

I kinda wanted a reboot after Kojima was done, but with the whole Konami leaving or having a reduced role in AAA Gaming development makes me not want to stomach it. I would've liked a more grounded and character driven approach to it. That's just me.

I think that could work. Always such a gamble, though.

I hate those little shits. Fuck this. I don't care that they're kids, they're enemy combatants.... I hate not being able to fulton those little fucks out... I hate not being able to choke them... So annoying...
Also I did my first FOB infiltration missions; what pisses me off is that there's been several times when I infiltrated a relatively well-guarded, multi-platform site, got through without any problems, then made one small fuck-up and couldn't finish because the enemy was alerted and I couldn't get into the infiltration point (or back to the wormhole) in time. Then you lose about ten times as many points as you made... the money's good though, it's definitely helped a lot.

I've completely forgot about them at this point.
And if you are spotted in an FOB, make a break for the infiltration goal and lie low. The door will open once they go back into search mode. Not the most fun solution, but it works.

I think there are child soldiers in three or four missions. You can punch them out in a one-on-one encounter pretty easily, and later on in the game you can develop the ability to Fulton them , so it doesn't seem like a huge deal to me.

Plus, they're no different from regular soldiers in the respect that you can just tranq them as you go. Sure, you can't kill them, but MGS was never really a run 'n gun franchise to begin with.

My problem was trying to get them out of the way; I'm a fan of fultoning out the soldiers to keep them from waking up/being discovered, so that wasn't (initially) something I could do. I also think it's kind of hypocritical that you're able to brutalize the shit out of the kids but not kill them. I just finished the unending jeep ride, saving the next mission for when my wife's able to watch. I felt bad that Snake didn't have a Gameboy or something. Also that was an incredibly retarded Bond villain plan. I mean it started alright, but it fell apart quick... and then he was done talking and then it was awkward.

I discovered that, if you deploy a Decoy near Diamond Dog, at least when he's still a puppy, he'll think that it's Boss. XD

You can also hide in a box and he'll walk right up to you. The different options you for missions are great.

Playing Peace Walker music through the iDroid speakers works too.

I finally played MGO, I didn't really care for it - anyone else bothering with it?
I'm doing alright with the base infiltrations, although I've died more than I should be (about 1 out of every 4 missions) because of my greed or dumb mistakes. Still I think it's a lot of fun.
Tried doing that first subsistence mission, man I'm spoiled by having equipment.
