This most likely should be "Götzendiener", meaning "servant of a false idol" in German. As such, unless you just wanna pronounce it in a Japanese manner, it should actually be Gu-dsen-dee-nah. And sorry for digging this up from page 1.

I've always been fascinated by 'Don't Buy This' on the ZX Spectrum. Best name? Worst name? You decide! If that doesn't count though, considering it's intentional, then maybe one of the games in the compilation might do-- Weasel Willy.

Here are some good'uns... Hotdog Storm Slap Fight Defend the Terra Attack on the Red UFO Cop 01 Wiping Mighty Guy Booby Kids (Nichibutsu is not good at this.) Raiden Trad* Pleiads (Okay, they caught the fact that it was misspelled...but never updated the actual game program. Strong work, Tecmo.) L.E.D. Storm (This one's not really bad, it just makes no sense in context. Some ports tried to say L.E.D was short for 'Laser Enhanced Destruction'. This'd be really cool... IF THE GAME HAD ANY LASERS.) ASO: Armored Scrum Object (CONGRATULATIONS / YOU MADE NONSENSICAL NAME / IT'S PERFECT NAME AND GAME IS OVER. THANK YOU!!) Equites (Maybe a good name for a Roman-themed SHMUP, but it doesn't really fit at all here...) * Not so much a awful name as it is a poorly translated one. The meaning of 'Trad' paired with the fact that the Japanese Release was called 'Raiden Densetsu' (The legend of Raiden) leads me to think that someone at Seibu, Electrobrain or Micronet just didn't check their handywork.

I've been thinking about buying "Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu: Legendary Saga" for the PSP for the name alone. (so I realized it's actually an anime-license game after finding the anime listed on iTunes) Burning Paper for the Game Boy. Although after trying the ROM it actually kind of makes sense (a sort of Qix game where you are a paper man that shoots lasers to burn paper to shake off and kill bugs), too bad the game looks kind of rare or I might try to get a copy. Though on the first level I see a problem: if you burn off all the paper on the screen and haven't killed the bugs (the goal of the level), I think you're screwed?

I'm still shocked that Extreme Entertainment was actually Micronet's US division. And that Absolute later bought them. Which probably explains why it was them that released Micronet's AX-101 in the US.

- Metal Gear Solid: It's one of the biggest proofs how much japanese people love to combine random, english words together with no meaning just because they sound so cooooooool. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. A lot of your posts are on the same level as bad game translations. On topic: Metal Gear Solid was named that because it started out as a 3-d remake of the first Metal Gear.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Resident Evil. I don't see what was wrong with Biohazard. Maybe copyright? I mean, the game takes place in a house. But there's monsters in it! It's like they were gonna call it "Spooky House" and then grabbed a thesaurus. /rambleabouthowpigdestroyermeanscopkiller It wasn't copyright, but close. The hardcore band from New York City, Biohazard, hold all entertainment-related trademark rights to the word and refused to license to Capcom for North America and Europe. Apparently, they sued SEGA over Bio-Hazard Battle and won.

I'm amazed you can trademark a single, normal, word. I was surprised Nintendo could trademark the name Mario (and not specific game titles). If I remember EA won against Tim Langdall(?) over the word "edge" but that was because he couldn't prove he made a real game in 15 years.

If I remember EA won against Tim Langdall(?) over the word "edge" but that was because he couldn't prove he made a real game in 15 years. It was trademarked in entertainment use, same as Langdell's trademark on the word Edge. Only difference in the two cases was that bands trademark their names as a brand to eliminate confusion and guarantee their image and livelihood, and tend to be specific. You could probably name a cologne Biohazard and not get sued by the band, as you are not selling an entertainment product or service by that name. Langdell's trademark was misrepresented by him as being far broader than it really was and he asked just enough money licensing-wise to get away with it for years. Once EA decided to fight it by pointing out the generic nature of the word and the abandonment issue due to not being used in a long time, not to mention the fraud LAngdell perpetrated as grounds to sue them, it was just a matter of time for him to lose.

So that means that derboo and everyone else who say that Metal Gear Solid is an awful name are also people who lives in a glass house? And being so offensive because someone made fun of your beloved game's name? No cool man. No cool. On topic: Metal Gear Solid was named that because it started out as a 3-d remake of the first Metal Gear. Still doesn't change the fact that the name is stupid.
