Anecdotal evidence but I played that demo too when looking for a MH style release and it was pretty lame. I'm not sure if it's what your suggesting, so apologies if not, but saleswise I don't think it's a great equivalent. It's a 6 month late port of a series with no previous entries on Nintendo platforms versus an exclusive with a significant Nintendo history. Also the Switch platform exploded in sales particularly in Japan this year. I think Rise could outdo the 4.9million Japanese sales of MHP3 Kaoru mentioned. Plus, obviously it will sell more than that game did in the west. I might have misinterpreted, but that was just an example of a non-exclusive that didn't do that well. I was playing it today so it was on my mind. Oh, I see. I think there are quite a few to be honest. Even known Switch hits like Disgaea 5 and Puyo Puyo Tetris only really got their numbers in the west. I think the difference maker might be that Vita had some success with these sort of games in Japan? Are there worldwide numbers for God Eater 3 on Switch? I'd be surprised if it was successful anywhere. Edit: to clarify, when I was talking about not missing out on the switch audience, I was talking only about Monster Hunter.

I remember enjoying Burst but never followed through with God Eater 2 or 3. The demo was indeed underwhelming. I don't think God Eater has its edge as a rival anymore. Monster Hunter being a class of its own.

Looked into this God Eater series I keep seeing mentioned here on Wikipedia. I thought it was an anime or manga series adapted in a video game but it's the other way around. Says that it's an action rpg. I tend to like those. Like it if someone could here could explain a little more about it and wether it's work picking up.
Also like to know about anyones experience with Super Mario Sunshine on the recent Super Mario 3D Stars released recently. I don't own Sunshine cause of problems with the controls and how easy it's to lose a life even when you are careful. It just feels off. Like to know if Nintendo fixed this making it easier to play through.

Well I finally did it. Hollow Knight
I uninstalled it. The Godmaster DLC is just too much of a time sink and life is too short. Overall I loved it even if it lagged a bit at the end.

My physical copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars is ready for pick up! I pre-ordered it in time or so it seems. But now the store suddenly has an additional 50+ copies in stock, even though it said sold out only yesterday. Hmm...

The God Eater demos are indeed terrible, but historically, so have the Monster Hunter ones been xD I only played God Eater Resurrection so far. But it is basically Anime Monster Hunter. It is an Action RPG in as much as MonHun is, meaning only if you are generous with the term. I personally always see them way more in Action than anything. The God Eater distinction is the look. As said it is heavily Anime aesthetic and it also takes place in a ruined post apocalyptic world. You also get a shield and a gun with every weapon instead of those being their own classes. Bullet customisation for the later one being a big part of the series. There's also a lot more storyline and cutscenes than in Monster Hunter. Not necissarily a better one, but certainly a more talky one. Ah yes, and you can fill your 4-people-team up with NPCs if you play offline in God Eater. It's generally easier and the missions are over quicker than in Monster Hunter too. But the general loop of GE is the same.

I've only played a little of the first one emulated and I'm playing 3 right now. Overall, they feel like they're made for people that don't like the heavy grind, long fight times and extreme differentiation of weapons in Monster Hunter. Weapons are still different from each other, but it's not like MH where you might have to learn a whole set of new mechanics if you use a new weapon type. 3 in particular feels a little bit more like an RPG since you have special attacks that level through use rather than everything being tied strictly to equipment. They're not the kind of games that are going to attract people willing to spend hundreds of hours on one game, but they're fun enough.
Edit: Oh yeah, in 3 you also get skill points for yourself and AI companions.

Yeah I hear that. Just about everything about that game was brilliant but the last DLC made me very, very, very happy I'm not a completionist anymore. That garbage is just obnoxious. Props to you for getting through that though, I quit after the second gauntlet of bosses.

Quick and dirty opinions for quick and dirty ports for Mario 3D Allstars. I've played about 10 stars of each which I think is enough to get a good feel for them. Mario 64 is Mario 64, there's nothing really noticeably different other than the increased resolution. There isn't even widescreen support. Sunshine is a bit odd in they've changed aiming controls to no longer use inverted y axis. The water nozzle controls are split between full blast, stationary on R,and free moving on ZR. It's a little weird to get used to and I just find it odd there's no Gamecube controller support. Seems to be a solid port otherwise and looks nice in HD. Galaxy looks really nice. I tried playing with my 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ at first and for star bits collecting it is just not possible. Recalibrating is near constant and moving your hands into the position needed horribly uncomfortable. After quickly switching to the Joy Cons I found them to work very nicely. You do need to recalibrate every 50-60 seconds or something, but because the star bits collecting is fairly passive it's fine, you can just do it whilst Mario is moving between planetoids. You can use Y instead of shaking for the spin attack (you can still use shake if you prefer). The game plays very nicely and generally I find more comfortable to play with the joy cons over the wii remote and nunchuck. chronotigger65 - there's no gameplay improvements in the collection. They're faithful ports, so if you liked the games before you'll like them here and vice versa.

It is a bit of stretch to call Mario 64 enhanced, but it's a little wild to think that it's been almost 16 years between this version and DS. It would have been nice if they had worked on the camera though. I finished up 70 stars, and some are more difficult to get than they should be just because of the camera although I think most of the difficulty is by intentional design. I'd definitely rank it higher than the other 3D Mario games in difficulty, and it's much happier to kill you for a small mistake than later ones.

I must admit I'm not having quite as good a time with 64 as I have in the past either. I'm finding the levels hit and miss. I tend to like the Bowser levels quite a bit. I'm also having some annoyances with the camera. I'm oddly playing the three Allstars games alongside one another and I'm slipping behind on Sunshine, because for me that is,the toughest thus far. Mostly the levels where your backpack is taken away can require a lot of tough jumps. The sand level on 64 I find a real pain though to get around and controlling flying Mario can be difficult too. The only one I'm still loving unreservedly is Galaxy. Although I have a real preference for the linear, obstacle course levels and it was always my favourite of the three.

I just want to say that the Bianco Hills Episode 5 boss (Petey Piranha rematch) in Sunshine is the worst I have ever seen in any Mario and probably any Nintendo game. Triggering the fight is so clunky and to have to sit around and waiting for it to maybe fly towards you is agonizingly boring!

Finished two more games:
Feel the Magic XY/XX, a.k.a Project Rub, a.k.a I Would Die For You. It is essentially a collection of mini-games that use the DS' input gimmicks. Mostly the touch screen of course, but you have to blow him too sometimes. The whole thing is stitched togehter with a super stylish and very stylized nonsensical story about a guy that falls head over heels for a girl and tries to impress her. By for example rescuing her from a totally normal suburban bull stampede. Or getting rid of scorpions crawling all over her after the usual daily scorpion delivery truck has a little accident. You get to fight Audrey II and Metal Gear too at some point. Still don't know why they pastered a bikini babe over the cover and main menu tho xD It's mostly fun btw, but milage may vary depending on the minigames (for me the spray point and rhythm game ones were atrociously hard to get through for example).
Resident Evil 2. The remake. Did Leon A Claire B. I quite liked it. Mr X was a bit annoying (despite me being used to such mechanics thanks to Clock Tower and Hellnight) and I was alway happy when the sewer area was over. But yeah, overall really enjoyable game. I also quite liked that they finally managed to give the blue herbs some use outside of the one or two times you might get poisoned, with them now giving you a defense boost if combined with a red one. I do wish they would have put a bit more effort into the A-B scenario thing. While the storyline does make concessions to fit them into the "this is both going on at the same time" timeline, it makes no sense gameplay wise. Since both Leon and Claire are around in the same areas and having to (re-)do the same puzzles and bosses - here it feels more like two alternative retellings of the same scenario a la Jill/Chris in the first game. Gorgeous game too, especially coming off 30 hours of Twilight Princess, the picture was almost distractingly sharp and the action weirdly smooth for the first hour or so xD

Not sure if this was mentioned in the past but sometime in early July I think Square Enix liscensed the Super Famicom game Live A Live in Australia (not sure if in other territories.) I know it's a game that's highly praised around the world but was never given a release worldwide. This might be possible that we're finally getting it.
Looks interesting but can't decide if it is a strategy game or a RPG.

Live A Live got registered in other areas including the US too so it must be getting some kind of release soonish although that isn't the strongest indication. It very much is an RPG although you can move around the combat area. It's pretty good, and the different character chapters have much more differentiation from each other.

Also, moving on from Sunshine (for now?). I can see why it's so divisive, and I'm mainly falling into the "don't like it" group. The 3D Mario games feel special, and this one just feels like a 3D platformer any company could have made. It's hard to describe exactly. I can't compare to the original, but the controls and camera have somehow gotten worse from 64 too. At least Galaxy is still as amazing as it was on release.
