Square Enix might have seen how well Seiken Densetsu 3 sold and are testing the waters with other holy grail untranslated rpgs?

Anyone else shocked by that Bethesda\Microsoft merger like I am? R.I.P. Wolfenstein 2009 and OG Prey. This just ensures we will never see those games again.

I find it a little weird that Microsoft basically waited 3 generations before ramping up studio purchases. For Bethesda, I would have though they'd have tried to buy them after Morrowind became a big success on the original Xbox.

I just want to say that the Bianco Hills Episode 5 boss (Petey Piranha rematch) in Sunshine is the worst I have ever seen in any Mario and probably any Nintendo game. Triggering the fight is so clunky and to have to sit around and waiting for it to maybe fly towards you is agonizingly boring! I legitimately had this exact though whilst playing that level yesterday morning. I guess it must be true then. Did the designers really think we were going to pursue him, up there where your camera can't reach. Not happening. _____ On Microsoft/Bethesda - for sake of clarity, it's an acquisition rather than a merger. Am I shocked? Yes, and no. Bethesda has had not many hits in a while with a high risk development approach so some kind of partnership was looming at the very least, and Microsoft has been on a shopping spree. Personally, I'm not a fan of this method of maintaining a grip on the industry since it is at risk of pushing out competition. Plus I don't feel Microsoft really has ever had an appreciation for the games industry and this is reflected in their XBox brands current position and inability to deliver games for their audience in recent years. From their perspective of course this gives them some quality IP's which is something they were lacking.

Lol. People on Twitter are begging for Sony to acquire Konami.

With Sunshine, my biggest problem with it aside from all the little miscellaneous bugs is that you have to do the first 7 Shines on every stage. Stuck on a Shine, tough. That just seems like a really bad decision and not one repeated for Galaxy.
Also to clarify on Bethesda, Microsoft is acquiring the entire holding company so they're getting id and everything else as part of it. That Bethesda gets top billing in the sale just goes to show how far id has fallen over the years. The whole thing is kinda weird though. They're clearing trying to shore up the XSX—XB1 sold worse than the 360, sold half what the PS4 did and has already been outsold by the Switch—but the whole 360 RRoD fiasco put the division into such a giant hole that it'd basically be impossible to really get out of. That would have absolutely killed them if it wasn't a side business of a gigantic company. I have trouble seeing what their long term strategy actually is. Overall sales are down, but they're throwing even more money at it.

Not putting the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout on the PS5 is, in fact, rather shocking. I was kinda taking them for granted. Couldn’t Microsoft make good money by allowing ES on PS5 though? It’s another 15+ million copies sold, easily. Possibly more, depending on how things turn out. Dunno what a deal like that would look like though. I hate when beloved franchises turn exclusive. Unless they’re exclusive to a console of my choice, of course

Unless they’re exclusive to a console of my choice, of course On the plus side of exclusivity it has helped me discover series I might not otherwise have tried such as Bayonetta 2 on Wii U. But it isn't in the interest of consumers and I find the fact that some celebrate buying up of devs/publishers baffling. dsparil - I'm guessing the long term strategy is more to do with their Game Pass service and they have conceded competing at console sales, but I do think with all these purchases it kind of seems like throwing everything against the wall to see what sticks. I don't think they have a clear vision of where they want to go or what the future of games should look like.

Hope this doesn't effect the release of Doom Eternal for the Switch but given Nintendo's current relationship with Microsoft things will probably be fine.

How's Monster Hunter Stories on the 3DS? There's a sale on at the moment that stacks with a My Nintendo discount (or so I'm told), so it's probably as cheap as it's going to get - and with the hardware discontinued, I wouldn't count on something like this coming around again. I heard a lot of people really liked the game.

MHS is pretty good. It felt like all the frustration I had with the main series paid off in a game I could actually finish.
