I hate when beloved franchises turn exclusive. Unless they’re exclusive to a console of my choice, of course I'm kind of biased like that as well, although my console of choice is generally Nintendo and they don't tend to acquire that much. As long as I can play something, I'm happy. But yeah, in all seriousness, an entire company's IPs going from third-party to exlusive (we'll see how much will be exclusive in practice) sucks. Unless a company is in big trouble and needs to be rescued by a bigger company, these kind of acquisitions don't sit right with me. Companies like Bethesda, Id and Rare have a certain feel to them and seeing them just being Disney'd by Microsoft kinda removes that personality. Of course, games are created by individuals and those companies themselves change...but still. I think the Atlus/Sega situation is pretty much the best-case scenario for mergers/takeovers in gaming (although things get a little complicated/messy there too with Index and all). If you weren't paying attention you'd barely know Atlus is connected to Sega at all. Maybe it's just me, but seeing stuff like Super Bomberman R having tons of Konami crossovers (but no Hudson homages from what I know) annoys me. To me, stuff like that is as silly as putting Star Wars or Marvel stuff in Disney Land.

There are of course multiple ways to look at this. I myself am a Sony guy most of the time (except the 360 era where I barely touched my PS3 except for playing Yakuza and LBP). However, if I was a Microsoft kinda person I would definitely be excited about Bethesda exclusivity, not because Sony is missing out (what kind of joy would anyone get out of that?) but because it will strenghten the Xbox brand and hopefully mean the Series X will do a hell of a lot better than the Xbox One did. That is extremely good news for them! Xbox needs it more than Playstation at this point.
I think it’s pretty bad for Elder Scrolls though. It’s like if Sony bought Rockstar. No GTA6 on the Xbox would be an absolute travesty, even if I don’t play Xbox.

Monster Hunter Stories is a really fun and charming little monster collecting game. I liked it a lot. There's a bit of polish missing here and there, but that's to be expected for a first entry.

Is it actually clear that all Bethesda IPs are Microsoft locked now? I coudl see Elder Scrolls still being published cross-plattform. Also of course, even Microsoft exclusives can at least still be played on the PC which you can't always say for Sony and certainly not Nintendo.

Microsoft said that they're going to honor existing commitments, but anything else is up in the air. I think the case against ES being on PlayStation in the future is that the Xbox turned into the main platform for the series (~60% of Skyrim's sales were on Xbox and ~10% PC) so they might view whatever increase in Xbox sales as being worth the loss of a secondary platform.
The idea that it's really about boosting Gamepass is also good as that 100% fits with their current corporate strategy of shifting one time sales to ongoing subscriptions e.g. Office 360 and various business oriented services. I'm split on whether they'd abandon the hardware entirely. The Xbox on its own doesn't seem to be consistently profitable, but I think they'll keep it around as long as the brand has value.

Anyone else just have piles and piles of unopened games waiting to be played?
I just went on a buying binge this past week. Pre-ordered the Neo Geo MVS X, got Shenmue 1 and 2, and 3, Ys Origin, Ys VIII, Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2.
And 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim just got delivered to my office this morning.
And I still haven't touched Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection. It's still shrink wrapped.
It's not even Christmas season yet.

My games aren't in piles, they're neatly placed on my shelves in an orderly fashion. 😉 I haven't bought many this year and played quite a bit so I've managed to get my backlog down to a more manageable number - 200 or so. They're all opened though, I at least like to give them a whirl. That is quite the spending spree though, it'll feel like Christmas at the Snake house.

Okay, my backlog isn't that high. I'm more at like, 30 games. How far back does that gaming generation go? Wii? Dreamcast? I usually don't go this crazy on spending. Most of those games were on sale from $15~30, with the MVS-X and 13 Sentinels being full price. I don't see myself buying anything else for the holiday season, unless Black Friday has some irresistible deals. I think the only thing I have planned left to get is the Sega Astro Mini. Not really feeling any of the next gen consoles coming out, yet.

Though to be clear I still play and buy games for my old systems heavily, and I very rarely play games as they've just come out. My PS2 gets pride of place under the tv whilst my PS4 lives in its box for eg.

Kirby really needs to go back to being more experimental. The current formula feels tired to me.

I must have over 1000 games in my backlog. 200 is small for me

Hahah, 30 backlog games. I wish. Tho now that I actually look at my Backloggery account, it tells me, that only 66 of the 340 games I own are unfinished. So I guess I'm not as bad as I thought I am.

Speaking of finishing games: Code Vein is done. It is basically to Dark Souls what God Eater is to Monster Hunter. Easier, simpler, a lot more Anime. Once again they give you NPC partners for the whole game to your side. My husbando Yakumo was a real Yakubro and made life a lot easier for example. It is a bit more generic. Somehow the games by this team (God Eater, Freedom Wars, Code Vein, Scarlet Nexus) all look very samey, tho I guess Code Vein at least has an excuse since it is literally taking place in a pocket of the God Eater world. The character designs are pretty decent and the guys get to wear some really cool outfits (the girls on the other hand get super lazy "sexy" ones that aren't particularly interesting to look at) and I do like the general designs of some areas. There's just a lot of ruined cityscape here and even the more interesting ones do copypasta a lot within themselves. The Cathedral of Sacred Blood for exampe has some great Anor Londo/Irythil of the Boreal Valley vibes when you enter, but then you find out that for the most part you are going to go along the same repeated scaffolding walkways. Also as a tip: Go for the Bad End. The Good End ads a second final boss and the Virgin Born was 10x harder and more annoying than anything else in the game. I really don't think that fight with its unusal difficutly spike is worth the trouble. Otherwise it is a fun little b-grade Soulsborne, as was to be expected.

My backlog is also in the hundreds... I am now actually starting to get rid of some of it cause I understand fully well that the moment has kinda passed for a lot of these games. If I’m no longer even remotely interested to play something I might as well sell or donate it.

Mine is in the hundreds as well... I've been better this year though having played/finished nearly every new purchase. I think my copies of Langrisser I & II and Rune Factory 4 Switch are the only exceptions so far. Errr and the Valkyria Chronicles 4 I just bought the other day.
