I've said it before, and I'll say it again, it was a mistake to add 3rd party characters to Smash. I give Pac-man a tiny bit of a pass since Namco co-developed 4 and Ultimate, but right from the get go in Brawl, they've only encouraged people's wildest fever dreams. At least the’ve had at least some connection to Nintendo so far. I don’t think it’s necessarily a problem.

Why not Rayman,or Lara Croft if it has to be Western characters? All this did was make Smash fans angry and yelling at each other. Honestly people were probably going to be disappointed anyway no matter who it was.

I know, because it's not Geno. I am tired of all the "Geno for Smash" stans. Smash has lost it's identity.

I don't understand why people are surprised or dissapointed with Steve being added to Smash. Minecraft is as iconic as Mario, Pac-Man, and Pikachu, about 10 billion people have played it at this point, and it's one of the few games even people who've never played a single video game instantly recognize. Also, it's a western game that actually has a significant popularity in Japan. Nobody in Japan gives a shit about Lara Croft or Rayman. If any 3rd party is deserving, it's Minecraft.
I get that some people would prefer Smash to be Nintendo-only, but it hasn't been since Brawl, and it has been clear since Smash 4's DLC that they're going all-out on adding as many iconic and interesting 3rd parties to the game.
About the only real reason against Steve's inclusion is that Notch is an asshole, but by that logic DQ shouldn't be in either.

I don't think he's even getting royalties out of it.

Nintendo was apparently open to Sonic being in Melee but Sega suggested it too late in development. I have more of an issue with the Smash community and the noise around third parties in general rather than the concept itself.

Nintendo: Here's a cool iconic character for Smash.
Smash community: Fuck you Nintendo where is MY character.... and Geno.
Gamers are literally the worst a lot of the time.
I actually think Steve is a fantastic addition. Minecraft is massive and iconic and he looks really fun to play.

It's funny how Smash has roughly three gazillion characters in it, but everyone can still collectively piss themselve every time a new one is announced.
They also have to get over Geno. Geno is dead and burried. There is no Geno anymore.

So how's everyone's Spooptober gaming? I'm going through The Evil Within 2 right now and like it a lot more than the previous one. Their approach is quite different - to where it might have even been better to use a new cast for the sequel, since it makes little sense this happens to the ones from the first one anyways. Evil Within 1 is kinda shitty Resident Evil, while Evil Within 2 is more overexplained Silent Hill.

How often does a Smash character get announced and there's NOT backlash. It's really nuts, especially considering there's so many options already. I can see the argument on asking for diversity representation, and think people should (respectfully) keep letting Nintendo know about it, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that front.
I haven't had any real playtime this week but horror gamewise I'm on with Resident Evil Revelations. It's entertaining enough so far, and actually does have some nice horror, but certainly nothing special. Hopefully I get time to finish it off in the next week or two.

I'm trying to finally get through Deus Ex so won't be starting horror games until after. Think it's raining here sunday and if so I'll update the hacking on my PS2 to accept USB sticks and maybe give Echo Night: Beyond a go. The concept has always fascinated me.

I'm willing to bet that Nintendo benefits largely from these nontroversies. It's good PR, not only for Smash, but for the Nintendo brand in general, doubly so with the Minecraft fanbase involved.

I think you can look at Steve being added as the opposite of Terry. People above a certain age rolling their eyes at Steve, and people below not knowing who Terry even is. I barely follow anything game related on social media, but the few reactions I've seen are a surprised excitement.
