Monolith still has some unannounced game that been in development for a few years now. I'm guessing X2 since there is demand for a port of X and Monolith has there's some difficulties in moving it over; I've guessed the need for a 32GB cart as being a possible issue in the past. Maybe it's that Xenosaga remake that's been rumored based on nothing. I think the MP4 fiasco might have cooled things a bit between Bandai and Nintendo though. Star Fox Grand Prix? Seems like it's been a while since there's been any rumors. If it was actually real, Retro getting pulling onto MP4 might have delayed it indefinitely. I'd still like to see it anyway. It's inarguable that they were working on something after Tropical Freeze. We're five days shy of that game's seven year anniversary and all they've released a Switch port of it in the mean time. That's nearly three years old too. I feel like FDC might have been soft confirmed. Unless I'm misremembering, I think Nintendo said that they didn't want to do more adventure games unless they were worldwide releases, and then not too long later those remakes were announced. If Nintendo is going to root around their adventure game back catalog, they should remake Metal Slader Glory too. There's a recentish translation of the FC version but not the expanded SFC remake. To be honest, I completely forgot about that one. I meant a new Star Fox title, in general. Even better if they add some extended or Star Fox 2 characters.

dsparil - You remember correctly re: adventure games. I just prefer not to count my chickens before they've hatched. I expect the localisation announcement when the games are reintroduced. On Monolithsoft - they had a project go into development in 2018. Given their efficiency and substantial growth since Xenoblade 2, I don't think release can be too far off. Maybe this year, but a release before the end of 2022 is a lock I think. Personally, I think it'll be another Xenoblade game, but I'd love to see something different from them.

Monolith Software seem to be a very efficient team at the moment. I was laughing that nintendo expected Xenoblade 2 to launch in the first year of the switch considering the scope and yet not only was it released but also a very polished game. Pretty sure they were drafted in to get BotW out the door as well.

Monolith released a remaster of XC1 which has new content last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a little longer for their next game to come out. They also help with quite a lot of Nintendo projects. Not sure the extent to which they help them, but it wouldn't be unexpected if they're aiding Nintendo on several upcoming games, seeing as how they helped with high-profile franchises such as Zelda, Splatoon and AC. BotW2 is also in development, so they're probably on that as well. I'd be very impressed if they managed to have yet another new title lined up for this year. I would say that it's probably time for a non-Xenoblade title from them.

Their support group who works on EPD games is housed separately in Kyoto. They have a main group who work on Xenoblade games in Tokyo (a number of which were assisting on BotW but this was a one off case). The Xenoblade remake was worked on by a side team in part as a training project since they expanded by around 100 employees in all since 2017 (they take on many University leavers). Their main project is confirmed to have been in development since 2018 and realistically will have more Monolithsoft staff than Xenoblade 2 did.

I didn't realize they were that big (261 employees according to Wikipedia)...I have never really played any of their games I think. It would definitely be interesting to see them branch out more like other Nintendo subsidiaries in that case.

I had completely forgotten about it, but they also started staffing for a fantasy action game around 2017. Assuming that's still around, I'm leaning more towards that if there is something Monolith related since it'd be further in the pipeline. A bit over two years seems a bit premature for a new Xeno game unless it's going outside the Direct window of H1 '21.

I’ve been very confused by the TALL VAMPIRE LADY fascination online lately, but now IGN has actually written an article on the subject. I mean, I figured it was something sexual but I wasn’t entirely sure. There are so many female video game characters that don’t get this kind of attention, and I failed to see exactly how Lady Dimitrescu is so different apart from being... tall? Is she exceptionally attractive? I don’t know? Is it because she ’s a bit of a drag queen? But yeah, IGN talks about how some people perhaps would like to be crushed or devoured by a giant dominatrix, so I guess that’s why so many people are going absolutely crazy over her? I feel kinda stupid for not ”getting” the neverending flood of meme’s. One person even said to me ”Isn’t it OBVIOUS!?”. And I’m like....no? She reminds me of Bayonetta tbh, but not as interesting. I don't think that there's a particular reason about it. People are bored, angry and horny for staying home for so long and watching screens all the time, someone with much time on their hands tells (ironically or not, we don't know) how much they want to be crushed by her, other people reply ironically, others seriously, fan artists latch onto the bandwagon, people are more aware of the character for seeing it pop up on their timeline, since everyone is online these days girls with Patreon and Onlyfans start promising cosplays of her (lewd or otherwise) for a quick buck, more and more horny people join the fray, gaming sites needing visits launch articles with click-baity titles and pictures, edgy meme makers make it even more popular, and so on... Basically it's like Bowsette, only that it seems more "forced" because so many people are stuck at home with not much to do, also because horny people and people who latch onto online girls (i refuse to use the "S" word) are more and more vocal and willing to spend large sums of money in order to get a kick out of what they like. But this is just my speculation as usual. (though I was correct in saying that she was inspired by the Eight-Foot-Tall Woman Japanese urban legend) It's like Demon Slayer: currently the most popular manga and anime series ever in Japan, though I watched it and it was good but nothing special. Just word of mouth increased by the internet, I guess.
Speaking of totally different stuff, I replayed Alien Storm on MAME yesterday and think that it has aged pretty badly. There must be a reason if Golden Axe is still remembered and spawned a series of spin-offs, remakes and sequels while Alien Storm has been more or less forgotten after the initial popularity. It's a shame however, because I would like to see a brawler/beat 'em up/fighting game inspired by cheesy sci-fi C-movies or just a modern remake of it that modernizes it while keeping the weirdness. I'm pretty tired of European medieval and Japanese feudal settings, so something akin to it and Capcom's Battle Circuit would be nice. But only if they keep the "You're toast, duuude" soundbite!

Anyone keeping up with the Six Days in Fallujah debacle? What happened to traditional games, like AAA 3D platformers(and no I don't mean Balan Wonderworld!)?

I've known a few Iraq War veterans over the years, and I think they'd be split about it. The genesis of it seems above board, but there is a reason war themed games (not just FPS) tend to stick to either fictitious modern day scenarios or WWII. I'm not sure if there's really a way to properly depict the situation in a game format without having to paper over the less savory elements and the humanitarian issues that continue to this day.

My favorite part of that Nintendo Direct were the old games that I’ve already played - Legend of Mana, Ninja Gaiden Collection and Skyward Sword HD.
Apart from that, the Triangle Strategy thing looked beautiful too.

Direct was mostly a big meh for me. Some exciting stuff, but a lot was already announced e.g. SaGa Frontier. Skyward Sword getting a port was the highlight for me especially with enhanced motion controls, and it was nice to have official confirmation of FDC which looks nicely animated.
Few other thoughts:
Pyra in Smash was not the Xenoblade news I would have expected.
Love Legend of Mana, but it doesn’t seem to have any new content beyond HD portraits.
Was expecting a new Mario Golf at some point. What else has Camelot been up to anyway?
Miitopia port is a real surprise considering how de-emphasized Miis have been on Switch.
Project Triangle Strategy looks interesting, but I’m remaining cautious after being somewhat disappointed by Octopath.
World End Club is already part of Apple Arcade. It didn’t launch complete so I haven’t played it yet. Guess it must be now.
Feel way too burned out on Splatoon to care about a new one at this point.

I thought it was pretty great really. The content was really varied and lots of it. Doesn't seem like we're getting many big games from Nintendo this year, but a lot of mid tier ones. The schedule seems well packed from now through to Summer. I'm guessing 2022 for BotW2 based on what was said about it. Also pretty clear they were holding some cards for reveal for late in the year games. Though I'm guessing we get a Pokemon presentation next week to fill in some blanks.
A couple of specific thoughts:-
FDC - I got what I wanted and it looks better than the last showing
Project Triangle Strategy (how do they come up with these names?) looked pretty incredible
Mario Golf I expected. Looks nice but I never buy the Mario sports games.
Legend of Mana is particularly cool since it never came to Europe. It's a new game to me.
I was expecting Splatoon 3 - but I was thinking sooner. The teaser was very odd. Hopefully Son of Suzy Creamcheese will be happy. I kind of though this being announced and as a 2022 game meant no other big unannounced games sooner. Maybe I'm wrong though.
Skyward Sword HD didn't surprise me either, but nice that it's coming. There's too much for me to play right now though, so I'll probably skip it.
No More Heroes 3 showing was weird.

What’s that Nintendo? Ports, easy sequels, and a Smash character? Exactly as expected. Carry on. (Secretly disappointed a new Fire Emblem wasn’t announced. Or a new Xeno game.)
