Speaking of Clyde Mandelin / Tomato, I think he did at some point actually contact people inside of Nintendo regarding his Mother 3 translation instead of just offering it on the fan translation's dev blog. Nintendo is just dead set against releasing Mother 3 outside of Japan.

Content seems to be the issue with regard to Mother 3 rather than the actual translation. The idea of bringing it to the west has of course been explored over the years, but the game would likely require significant localisation work.

It's a touchy subject. Change too much and the audience would be divisive toward it. I believe many Mother fans just want a complete official set in English, but nowadays if your translation isn't literal people blow up on social media.
Cool that companies are working with fan-translators once in a while like with the Trails games. There are a lot of retro games that deserve a modern port in other languages and all it takes is companies reaching out to the fan community.

I'm jealous! I've been thinking of getting an AV Famicom, or even a top loader NES. Well what's stopping you? Focusing on the NES/FC the last couple of months has honestly been the most fun I've had with the collecting aspect of gaming. As for Rockman/Megaman NES prices, I guess for the American prices it's the more rare, the more expensive (I assume the first three got the largest runs back in the day), whereas on the FC it's the more desirable ones (so, the earlier ones) that are more expensive or something. But that might be complete bullshit. Though RM6 doesn't follow that pattern, so I guess that game is just relatively rare because it came so late in the system's life. Being cheap for one. I already have a Famicom, so it's not exactly a "nneeeeeeEEeeeEeeed." But there is also the debate of picking up a Famicom Disk System, or a Sharp Twin, or even a PC-FX. But I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Famicom Disk System set.

if you've played Geofront's Crossbell translations, they basically are as close to professional quality as you can get. I pimped their patches a few months back in here and I still say they're the most impressive fan translations I've ever seen. The key is, along with their technical knowledge, they seem to have people who actually know how to write good dialogue in english, which isn't common in fan translations, which are usually too dry or too internet-lingo-ey NISA has had some backlash over some of their past Falcom localizations so getting the Geofront versions of these games will put any concerns to rest.

So I notice that a demo for The World Ends With You Neo is coming tomorrow and like with all marketing for this game it was unveiled in the most understated way. I find it really odd that Square Enix has made so little effort to create excitement for this release. There has been no presence in a major presentation such as E3 or Nintendo Direct etc. It is as though there is no confidence in the product, which leaves me wondering why they developed it in the first place. I mean, it's a sequel to a cult DS game from 14 years ago that failed to sell with multiple chances. Even as someone who did play and greatly enjoy the original I'm really not feeling it. Maybe the demo will do its job, but it seems a bit too little too late and that this game is being sent out to die. I would like to be wrong. I just played through the demo, and it's okay. They moved it to being an action-RPG, but it's fun enough I guess. It is strange that even something as minor as Collection of SaGa seems to have gotten more promotion. For a while I thought that it was the anime that just ended. Maybe it's getting more promotion in Japan? Part of the reason a sequel took so long is that there's a lot of staff shared with Kingdom Hearts so those people had to be freed up first.

The simplistic combat in Hollow Knight isn't there to slow your progress but rather to ensure accessibility. By implementing a combat system which players can easily get to grips with and control this allows for the developers to present difficult challenges wherein the player will succeed and fail whilst feeling it is completely at their own merit rather than that they are fighting with game controls. Yeah I don't buy the accessibility argument when most of the game's challenge is fighting small flying enemies from walls/tiny platforms and enemies like Great Husk Sentries who take way too much effort to kill before you get the shadow dash ability. Also I really hate how the game makes a huge audio and visual fuss when you get hit like it's the end of the goddamn world.

The internet continues to prove itself to be the place where people present the worst version of themselves possible. What an awful, and perhaps most frighteningly all too easy to relate to, situation to be in. I was deeply saddened to read about it. --- Ace Whatever - I don't think what you said contradicts what I am saying about accessibility. All I am talking about is making the combat system simplistic so that a challenging game can be created around it. That doesn't mean new abilities can't be unlocked whilst remaining accessible either, but doing so more slowly to enable players to get fully to grips with the basics, and not expecting learning of a bunch of new systems all at once. What you find challenging about the game and what I did are two different things, however. I was more challenged by enemy patterns that I had to learn, retry and rethink my approach. Of course, everyone will be challenged differently. Honestly though, I'm not sure you are looking for debate and perhaps more venting your frustrations. Hollow Knight certainly could frustrate, though to me it was the kind that pushed me to meet the challenge it presented. I was frustrated, but had a great time with the game. I certainly needed to come down with something much easier afterwards. Anyway, it is pretty clear from your posts you aren't having much fun with it. But I think there's plenty of Metroidvania's out there which offer more complexity and regular upgrades etc, just Hollow Knight is going for something different.

I'm once again finding that my favorite Smash remixes are the ones Yoko Shimamura was involved in...

I want that book! I'd like to know if this book is going to be on sale at Amazon.com or some other website besides Bitmap Books.
