Just realized that you can pit "Timeless River" Sora against the Cuphead Mii.

Sora was a character I never thought would make it because of the Disney connection. I am glad he was the last character.
------- Thinking of getting Monkey Ball Banana Mania, Walmart has Switch Anniversary Edition but some reason PS4 version isn't marked as such and instead a standard copy? How is the Switch port?

Sora is one of the few characters that would've downright pissed me off if he got in, and here he is. I knew the fighter ballot would fuck things up. During the trailer I figured it was going to be Dark Souls or Tabuu or something. Maybe KH fans would've picked up on it. I've said it before, but the whole point of Kingdom Hearts is that it's Final Fantasy + Disney. So when adding Sora, you have to make a choice: either have Disney stuff in Smash, which wouldn't make any sense, or you would have no Disney stuff which means you're not really representing Kingdom Hearts. Now it's just a glorified third FF character (and we just got one!!!). On top of that, it's yet another S-E character with no new remixes, and top of that, you need a savefile from another game to unlock one of the themes. And of course S-E is doing the bare minimum by not porting any of the KH games to Switch, but by offering cloud versions. I get KH3 being cloud-only, but the other ones should've been ports. So yeah, this is by far the worst DLC pack... The interesting thing is that the "Characters have at least some ties to Nintendo" held up for the most part, though Joker is a bit on shaky ground (depending on how you view the SMT->Persona connection). Joker isn't any more on shaky ground than characters like Sora or Kazuya. Almost every series has some kind of vague connection to Nintendo or has appeared on one of their platforms. I mean, it's Nintendo. I don't get why Smash fans like to use that as some kind of justification. Yeah, Joker appeared in a 3DS game that nobody bought because the 3DS was barely relevant anymore. Good for him, but they would've put him in either way and if you're against putting non-Nintendo-relevant characters in it's not going to change your mind that friggin Persona Q2 was on a Nintendo platform. I agree that playstyles are the most important thing. From that perspective, I thought Piranha Plant was the most interesting; and of course that came free. As for characters themselves, I'm more interested in first party ones at this point. The 3rd party characters have gone beyond being a special inclusion. There's something for everybody of course, but in order to go all in on the dlc packs I think you have to be pretty confident you'll play as anybody. I've found that even a choice that catches my attention only really pulls me back into the game for an hour at best, so I'm not really going to be over excited no matter who it is. Playstyle and whether or not a character is an interesting inclusion to someone is not really correlated, so if you're into Smash, the DLC is pretty much worth it unless it just so happens that you don't like any of the characters' playstyles in a pack. But the chances of that are extremely slim, especially since they put a lot of effort into making characters stand out these days. Of course, if you get bored after an hour, the DLC has a steep price. I've always put a ton of time into each new character, even if I don't really care about their inclusion. Min Min is so far the only of the DLC characters I just plain don't ever pick, and in the base game there's only a handful I don't play. Plus, maybe it's just me, but Smash is just one of those games where it feels completely wrong to not have all the characters and stages. I think part of it is that every character in Smash can be picked up and played easily, unlike most fighting games where you're going to stick to a couple of characters and probably won't master all of them. Even the characters I don't every pick myself, I know what to do with them if I would get them with Random. And yeah, I agree that the specialness of 3rd parties has been gone for a while now. That doesn't make them any less fun, but I think it would've been more mindblowing if they ended on, say Steve, which was the last one that a lot of people had their doubts about. Sora is literally the most boring choice they could've made. Aside from maybe a gen 8 Pokémon, but at least that would abide to first party rules.

At least two of his costumes are character fusion ones. At the very least you're still getting KH motifs. There was one new remix in the form of Sora's victory tune.

Enemy Zero is a good concept, but I think it could have used a mode that either made the enemies a little less invisible or told you the direction instead of having to discern everything from beeps. I picked up the PC port for super cheap when it was still relatively new. Never made it that far even with a walkthrough, but I'm curious to give it another try sometime. PDS is the only multi-disc Saturn game I've emulated, but I didn't have any problems. The discs might need to be put into a playlist instead of being run directly. It's an emulation issue. They are all based on mednafen and that core kicks you out to the bios to load the next disc when you eject the disc. This isnt an issue with a game like pds as you can save at the disc change but enemy zero doesn't let you save at the disc change. From looking around a little, it seems like actual hardware does this too so there must be a way around it. I'm going to try giving the Saturn version a play and see what happens.

Though there's something that kinda fits about a character that's a crossover himself being added to a crossover "fighter".

Don't try the Saturn version emulated. There's no way around it. Also the machine does act like this but games like EO and PDS override the dump back to bios command and allow you to swap discs. I've played both EO and PDS on original hardware. This is a emulator flaw that's not been fixed. Had a friend of mine that knows more about emulation confirm it. I'm not trying to be harsh, just don't want you wasting your time getting to the first disc swap and realising you've wasted your time. As I said the PC game strangely works beautifully with modern hardware and you can get the game from archive.org. I just finished the game 5 minutes ago so it's perfectly playable to completion on PC.

And I'm done with Enemy Zero.
The last section is basically just a bunch of mazes filled with enemies and very few areas where you can save. It's a bit of a pain in the arse and seems to be only there to extend the length of the game. Overall the writing is sub Dave Cage level and really unsatisfying which is a shame because the mechanics lend themselves so well to a horror game.

The Pokemon Company and Universal Studios Japan have announced a partnership to bring a Pokemon interactive experience to their parks. I'm picturing real life Pokemon Snap. Disappointed with anything less.

I don't like what Kingdom Hearts became after II, but I enjoyed the first game when it came out for it's novelty. As such, I don't have strong opinions about Soras inclusion either way. He looks good and animates really well though, so I'll give him a shot. May as well, since I bought the Fighters Pass.
I do think his inclusion is impressive from a licensing standpoint, though. This had to have been a legal nightmare, and was likely a very expensive deal. As far as I know, Disney owns the original KH characters, but Square Enix shares copyright for the games themselves, so going through both had to happen, and I can't imagine Disney was ecstatic to be a part of this. The kind of deal only Sakurai could make happen.
I suppose there's something fitting about the final character in the biggest crossover fighting game being from one of the most popular crossover games in the world. Plus Sora is the name of Sakurais company! How could he not?

Disney is listed in the copyright info for characters so they did play some kind of role. It is an interesting coincidence that the two share the same name.
On the Enemy Zero front, the Saturn version freezes for me after leaving the locker room at the beginning and the PC version doesn't work in Wine for macOS or Linux. So instead, I decided to try actually completing Eternal Darkness since I got pretty far originally but didn't manage to get to the end. Considering it is so unintentionally cheesy almost from the start, that's probably what wore down originally and why I don't remember it particularly fondly.

It's kind of weird that using Simple and Clean would require an extra layer of licensing.
