Koichi Sugiyama, best known for composing the music to Dragon Quest among many other works, passed away on September 30th at the age of 90. My condolences to his family and friends. www.dragonquest.jp/news/detail/3546/It's difficult to know how to express a feeling when somebody who passes away stood for as many bad things as Sugiyama. I guess I will neither mourn nor celebrate his passing as I feel that is the respectful thing to do.

Videogames lost an iconic musician.
The world has one less bigot.

Well retr0gamer as ever manages to express himself in a way that I am not able but I think that's a good summation. This is very cool to hear about. Would be great to see some more Masaya games make their way onto modern platforms. I hope the ports are well executed. Unfortunately another recent shmup compilation/set of releases - Cotton 2, Cotton Boomerang and Guardian Force Saturn Tribute's are apparently disappointing fans due to input lag. This was a cool collection to see but it's a shame if the games haven't been done the proper service. ----- On news of my own interest, and a stretch to call on topic, my likeness Kylie is leaving the UK to return to Australia after 30 years of residence. She has been something of a national treasure - a stolen one perhaps, but that doesn't mean the Aussies can have her back. I feel betrayed.

I really wish all these shooters would get ported to PC. Would be nice to have them on a system with longevity but they are putting them on systems that are quite mature, and in the case of the PS4, at the end of it's life cycle.

At least modern platforms should all be forwards compatible for some time so the availability will depend upon the publisher/licensing for now. Basically everything realistically possible should come to PC though for preservations sake.

Weird music choice, but ok.

About Suigyama, I wonder if his successor, whoever it will be, will keep many of the jingles in Dragon Quest that have been part of the franchise since the beginning?

I swear there was a post here about how excelsior's most used SSBU character is Peach. Definitely one of my favorite characters as well. I think my most used is Incineroar, but my best one's probably Mr. Game & Watch. Which is cool because he was my best one in Brawl as well. DQ is very traditional and in touch with its past. I'm very sure those classic sfx and jingles are going to stay with the franchise for ever.

I binned it because I felt like I was over posting a bit lately. But yes I love Peach. Incineroar is a blast to play. Mr G&W I loved in Brawl but then I felt like he was nerfed or something... I could never get to grips with him afterwards.

I’m sure a lot of young composers will be able to emulate the classic DQ style while greatly improving the actual melodies. Not even the orchestral version of the soundtrack could save DQXI.
No disrespect, of course. RIP and all. But still, fresh new talent was well overdue IMO.

I could never get to grips with him afterwards. G&W was nerfed from Brawl to Smash 4, but was buffed again in Ultimate. One thing that seems to be a thing that happens from one to the next Smash game, is where they overcorrect a little too much when nerfing/buffing. Which is why I loved G&W in Brawl, barely played him in Smash 4, and picked him up again in Ultimate. I’m sure a lot of young composers will be able to emulate the classic DQ style while greatly improving the actual melodies. Not even the orchestral version of the soundtrack could save DQXI. No disrespect, of course. RIP and all. But still, fresh new talent was well overdue IMO. I didn't mind 11's OST like some did, but I will say that I am looking forward to a less controlling person being in charge of the rights to the music (hopefully? IDK of course). CD-quality soundtracks have been the a thing for 25 years now, every DQ game should've been completely orchestral from DQ7 onwards. The fact that so many DQ games are filled with shitty midis of the soundtracks is just a big middle finger to fans.

Really enjoying Sweet Home. It's strangely playable as a NES JRPG but the mix with Resident Evil elements makes it a very unique experience.
Anyone know what the best way to play the original Clocktower is?

I have bought some time ago Loop Hero during the Steam sales but started playing it only now. It's addictive and it has a very nice art style and soundtrack! However, is it me or after the initial amount of hype earlier this year people have stopped talking about it already? Maybe because it's kind of difficult to describe... it's nominally a roguelike but it is mostly based on deckbuilding, resource management, strategy and maybe a bit of tower defense too? It sure is original.

Loop Hero is coming to Switch this Winter so perhaps that will give it a new lease on life. Really enjoying Sweet Home. It's strangely playable as a NES JRPG but the mix with Resident Evil elements makes it a very unique experience. Anyone know what the best way to play the original Clocktower is? From under the duvet cautiously peeping at the screen when you gather the courage? Sweet Home is really cool for sure. I'm glad I only ever played it on emulator though since it really punishes your mistakes. I really enjoy the tension in the battle theme.

Sweet Home's game over theme is perhaps the scariest ever. I made a thread on what people thought was the scariest game over theme ever, and that was my pick.
