Oh no, do I have to buy that Etrian Odyssey collection now to show Atlus I want Etrian Odyssey 6? I like that there's new portraits that look more like the later games, but I don't think I'll be playing this until there's a really good reason to. Not having the touch screen is such a downgrade, that I think I'll just wait until 6 comes out to play a Switch EO. Having the ability to start out the games with classes that were originally unlockable would be a great upgrade, and something that makes sense seeing as they removed that aspect later in the series. That'd tempt me, for sure. Anyway, kind of a light direct, mostly focused on ports and some DLC. Getting a single new character for MK8DX 6 years after launch is really funny. That track actually looks like a full-fledged new track for once, even though it's still clearly from Tour. Splatoon 3 is a bit unfair. It's cool that we're getting something else (the plaza from Splatoon 1) on top of what we knew we were getting, but why does team Order get an entire DLC for themselves? They lost for chrissake. GBA only being on the expansion pass is not going to go over well I feel. It's also funny that they have SML2 but not 1. The highlights were no doubt Pikmin and Metroid. Pikmin just looks neat. I'm sure it'll be good, but Pikmin isn't really something that really brings very hype-y trailers for me, idk. Metroid Prime has way more effort put into it than I was expecting. The original can be a bit bad with visibility at times, though I've yet to play it with RGB out, so that might fix it. But I'm tempted. Ghost Trick and Baten Kaitos are nice to see return, though I'll just play the former on the DS. Yeah, this really gives the impression that the successor to the Switch is not too far away. Ah well, it was nice to get another 10 seconds of Zelda footage. It sounds like we're getting more characters in future waves.

JP Direct once again had a bit of exclusive content:
Atelier Mari Remake - This was the very first of Gusts Atelier games Momotaro Dentetsu World - The previous game was the best selling Switch game in Japan for several months in a row Natsu-mon! - A new My Summer Vacation game everyone is very excited about
---
Deca Police, Rain Code, Metroid Prime, Fantasy Life and Fashion Dreamer look fun. Ghost Trick and Etrian Odyssey are nice, but I played them already. Adding GB/A games is also pretty cool, especially since not everything is the usual obvsious subject and they added some surprises (Alone in the Dark, Golden Sun, even if both are kinda bad)

Zelda out in May? I'll take it. I don't think it's possible to top Breath so I'm hoping they try to something interesting with the gameplay, setting or narrative like they did with Majora's Mask - right now it just looks like "Breath, but in the sky".
Very happy bout the handhelds being added to the NSO. The NSO emulators take up a surprising amount of my gaming time and have rapidly become one of my favorite ways to play retro games - it's very easy for me to burn 10-15 minutes of free time, do a quick save and come back to my game later. Weird stuff like the Alone in the Dark game is a good start - let's get more offbeat games on these!

Even if tears of the kingdom doesn't love up to botw I'll get it. I mean it's been 6 years and the closest the industry has gotten to emulating an open world as good as botw has been sonic frontiers of all things.

Pity, it didnt' look half bad for a demo. Although, the movement is missing a little something that the original had with hand-drawn animation type scheme.

I was getting a bit interested in Metroid Prime a few years ago when I did my last Wii game haul, but Trilogy already went for like 100 bucks back then so I passed. This could have been a good opportunity to get on it, but honeslty 40 bucks for the remaster of only one game is a bit steep for me personally, especially since I'm not sure if I'll like it at all. Hopefully I can find it for cheaper later down the road, but that's also not super likely with Nintendo first party franchises.

If it's an aversion to FPS games, Prime doesn't play like one and has more in common with 3D zelda's when it comes to combat. I think you should give it a go. It's honestly one of the very best games I've ever played. This also ins't a cheap up res remaster, they've completely redone all the art and models, it looks incredible. It's also a lot of game for 40 quid.

It does look really good. I've been peeking at some gameplay to see if there's anything still notably GCN-y about it, but the models and textures and lighting all seem so much improved that you might as well call it a full on remake instead of a remaster. The only thing that still looks 2002 are the animations, maybe the map screen. I've seen some people bitch about the €40 price tag, but they gotta get their eyes checked.
I've also seen people worried about the new Zelda after the Direct, saying it looks too close to the original. I get it, but I'm really surprised by how many people seem genuinely concerned about it being glorified BotW DLC (okay, there's also probably a good amount of haters just bitching for the sake of bitching). It's a game 6 years in development, in a series they treat well, and it's a sequel to one of their most highly praised/prestigious games ever. They're not going to spend 6 years just to come out with BotW 1.5. They're either saving up for a dedicated TotK direct, or else they just want people to go in as blind as possible and be surprised. Admittedly, it would be a bit weird for a direct to go over a bunch of mechanics and such for this kind of game, so I hope they just keep us in the dark as much as possible.

If Nintendo really wanted to make glorified DLC, they would have turned BotW into a yearly "series". Apparently TotK is the largest first party game at 18GB so it's not like it's going to be phoned in.

Some of my favorite Zeldas actually looked very close to what came before them and/or built upon an already existing game in the series (Majora’s Mask, Oracle games, A Link Between Worlds….) so I’m not at all worried.
Metroid, Kirby and Etrian Odyssey had me most excited. All of them old games, but still. Also, I’ve never played Baten Kaitos so I’m pretty interested in that as well. I wish other Gamecube JRPGs would get the same treatment. Skies of Arcadia for example, which I’ve always wanted to play! Surely a remaster cannot be beyond the realms of possibility? Everything and its mother is remastered left and right these days.

There were official murmurings from Sega of an HD rerelease about a decade ago, but that never happened. I think they're mainly hesitant because it didn't sell well on DC or GC. It'd be nice to have a new version though with sped up battles. I remember them being way too slow.

Just got an NES Max, hoping to get a second one really soon. It's so satisfying slaying the Mecha Dragon in Mega Man 2 with Quickman's Quick Boomerang in just one shot.

Does anybody have any preferences when it comes to the chapters in Live a Live? I've been playing the remake, and let's just say its a mixed bag for me so far. I did a couple of chapters in a row that I didn't enjoy, so really stunted my progress. I expect this is going to be one of those games where it comes down to the individual, but I was wondering which ones people liked the most.
