Speaking of Gambling, If you're feeling lucky (probably helps that you have high luck and high gambling skill), find a slot machine, hold 5 on numpad and watch the money come/go, provided that they haven't fixed it in any of the fan patches. You can even empty slot machines this way. Ha! Didn't know that. I gave myself 1 LK thinking it wouldn't hurt me too bad. It doesn't seem to cause a bunch of critical misses or anything. The only difference I've noticed is that I haven't had to many "special" encounters in the wasteland. Here are some weapon tips: - You can use the gun books to boost your small arms stat to 100%. I don't think any other weapon skills can be boosted by literature. This means that you can get the small arms skill up a lot higher earlier in the game.
- As I said earlier, it makes sense to do all of your serious shopping in SF because you can steal your money back.
- The best gun to buy in SF is the Jackhammer. Loads of damage and uses a very common type of ammo.
- Gauss rifles are a little better, but which is about the same amount of power but with much more range/accuracy. Problem is, its ammo is very rare. I've yet to see anyone drop it. I was able to buy enough ammo in SF to use it fora few major quests before I ran out.
- Don't forget to empty the guns you find on dead bodies. Even though you won't need more than a few guns, you can always use free ammo.

How do you empty the ammo from guns?

Use right click to cycle between inventory functions until the arrow icon appears, then click and hold on the weapon. If you see an icon of the gun with a red arrow pointing downward, that means it can be unloaded.

So I made some more progress. Finished the Modoc quest, though the Den was STRAIGHT WEST, and nowhere near "North West". Horrible directions. Once Modoc loved me, I was able to buy a Combat Knife for a reasonable price, and the 1 less AP means I can do two aimed slices each combat round. I also (finally) picked the Bonus HtH Perk, which is fantastic. Was this a choice for the first perk selection? If so, I must have thought it was only for unarmed at the time.
Now I'm at Vault City, and left Vic standing in the middle of the road in favour of Cassidy.
Oh, and I gave Sulik an SMG. We'll see if I regret this decision.

I'd be really careful about giving Sulik a submachine gun. If you do, tell him to be "Extremely careful not to hit you" because otherwise you're gonna get shredded to pieces by his burst-fire.

I talked about this on the podcast recording last weekend. This is my first copy of Fallout 2 which I got from my uncle back in 2001. I played this game tons on my old 90mhz Pentium computer (40mb RAM and all, antique piece of device). Its probably my most played game ever and I played it for years. There were periods of time when I played nothing else but Fallout 2. I was a total addict. Then one day, while I was playing normally, the cd just "exploded" in the cd drive! Shrapnels were poking out of it and the game stopped running (I was playing it on the minimal installation all the time, hard drive was antique too). When I opened up the computer and the cd drive the cd was in pieces and to this day I have no idea how this happened. Game was always running okay (what with all the loading), the cd was in okay condition and I dont think there ever was any strutter with it and the cd drive itself was an okay piece of hardware (even if it was, you guessed it, antique) and worked afterwards once I removed all the shrapnels. And the Mythbusters said this wouldn't be possible with normal means!

A CD can only hold so much awesome for so long. It was bound to happen eventually.
