You forgot they hate Mega Man now.

Never understood why Mega Man 9 and 10 weren't released as a single retail release. I thought they were fantastic games. Since I actually saw a DVD release of Duck Tales Remastered for the PC last month, I agree. If THAT is worth a retail release (and a PC version, too) to Capcom, why not MM9&10? In US, at least, Mega Man 10 was on a disc for PS3/360 with other "essential" Capcom games SuperSF4, DMC4, Dead Rising 2, and RE6. No DLC for any of them, either.

Its not that they hate megaman, was more as a grudge against inafune for badmouthing his own company (and now that hes gone, a new one might come someday), but do you honestly think that non megaman fans would buy a retail version of 2 8-bit sidescrollers? As far as i know no new contra games havent been released for a big console yet no one is accusing Konami of hating contra. Sidescrollers now are risky to release in disc form, I guess its something from this generation. I guess the ducktales remasterd got a disc release... because 3D?
Megaman games already struggled ever since the PSX when everyone wanted to play games in 3D even if they were crap.

Wow, you guys have been writing really quickly over the past few weeks. First 7+8+MMaB, and now 5 games! Thanks a lot!

Just a quick correction: The article cites Mega Man V as the only Game Boy title to have a boss rematch room. IIRC, and if I'm not misinterpreting things, Mega Man IV also had a rematch room right before the final showdown with the Wily mech.
Otherwise, these have been very fascinating articles so far, especially in regards to robot master designs and designers. And it's also nice to see Mega Man III GB described with more detail than just "Not as good as IV and V GB." Good job!

Wow, you guys have been writing really quickly over the past few weeks. First 7+8+MMaB, and now 5 games! Thanks a lot! Actually it was written months in advance and being doled out on a weekly basis. Next part should be the 2 arcade games and then the remake/port extravaganza. Just a quick correction: The article cites Mega Man V as the only Game Boy title to have a boss rematch room. IIRC, and if I'm not misinterpreting things, Mega Man IV also had a rematch room right before the final showdown with the Wily mech. Yeah, oversight on my part. That's a pretty long final Wily Stage, too, just like in III GB. I also neglected to mention that a few of the special weapons had added practical purposes, like Rain Flush extinguishing flames or Ring Boomerang being able to snatch items.

I took out the "only" clause about the rematch room in MMV. If you want to add anything to the MMIV part along that line, you can just post it here and tell me where it goes.

Ducktales probably sold better than expected digitally. You forgot they hate Mega Man now. Well, there's always fan games. Any of you ever check out the Mega Man: A Day in the Limelight series? They got 2, currently working on a 3rd. You play as the robot masters, against the robot masters of the next game.

Quickie gamefaqs euro cover links: I have seen a Chinese MM2GB in the wild, and it's the US cover with a translated title underneath the English script. The anniversary artbook uses the Chinese cover in the Western art section.

Mega Man II does feature an entirely new soundtrack. Some passages of some songs are slightly reminiscent of older tracks, but that's more a case of ripping off than remixing.

I see the Arcade games are up now. I do find it a bit strange that one screenshot is included for the Neo Geo Pocket Color version of each game, but there's no mention of the port in the body of the article. How does it hold up? Is it worth playing? etc.

Is it worth playing? etc. The NGPC port gets mentioned in the port/remake sections, since there's also the PS2 port exclusive to Japan. Both ports along with the Anniversary Collection have both arcade games bundled together. Short answer: pretty faithful downgraded port. The Japanese PS2 release is probably the best version due to the added options and rudimentary Battle Mode.

Good writeups, Malev. Yeah, I agree with you 100% about the Power Battles/Fighters game. They're sort of the Mega Man fan's equivalent of junk food -- it's fun in short bursts but not really something to be sought after.
