It's like "Wile E." It's because he's evil. What on earth would compel people to call him "Willy"? Probably the same thing that would compel people to pronounce mare-e-o. The funny thing is, the name, as it's normally pronounced, is in line with general Japanese pronunciation, too.

The Wily counterpart in the later Zero games is Dr. Vile in Japan but Dr. Weil in US/EU, because there was already a character named Vile in MMX (originally known as Vava).

A few things to note about the latest update, which I forgot to add to the main document and will add later:
-The Anniversary Collection runs in filtered 480i while the PS1 collections run in 240p, so the latter looks a little nicer -The arranged music was cut out of the Gamecube version due to space constraints -The arranged music for MM6 on the PS1 version sounds messed it, like it was mastered improperly. I'll need to dig out my copy to double check.

Probably those accursed voice licensing issues again!

I wish I could prove it, but I swear that they were offering a bundle deal with Maverick Hunter X on the PSN a couple of years ago. I almost bought it once, but I owned Maverick Hunter X. And well I could never seem to come across a UMD copy.

Maverick Hunter X is on there, or at least was at one point. It was part of a PS+ deal awhile back so it's on my Vita. It's just Powered Up that's MIA.

There was a UMD double pack of Powered Up & Maverick Hunter X that Capcom USA released as the PSP's American life cycle was winding down. That's how I bought the games.

Odd since they used the same recording team in Calgary, I believe many of the same voice actors, as well. Still sad to see the remakes die off so fast. They did have some issues, but they were really nice ideas all around. The only issue is that they might've started charging for the DLC stuff in the game. I think you can still download everything from the hard to unlock characters to promo stages still from Capcom. If not, saves of them are easily found on the web. All those Roll costumes.

Maverick Hunter X has an entire ~30 minute anime OVA unlockable by finishing the game. That was pretty damn generous.
It's also worth mentioning that the Japanese release is the only Rockman game without Rockman in the title - it's just "Irregular Hunter X."

Roll's costumes has some Easter Eggs that are hard if not impossible to spot in-game: These are textures ripped and posted on Spriter's Resource Her Rainy Day frog-shaped raincoat has a sprite of Toad Man on the back. Her Arther-like Knight costume continues the trend of goofy heart-print underwear, it seems.

Daw, those Roll costumes. Opinion time: the Mega Man 8 Roll design is superior to her usual design. And I'm not saying that biased because of MVC2.

Um, wow. That artwork. Did they go on Deviantart and reuse some 12 year olds fanart?

Made some corrections, added a bunch of comparison pics for the "Old Style" mode in Powered Up, too.
